Happy Monday, Friends! When I told my husband I was going to blog about getting organized in the new year, he actually laughed! Undeterred, I am determined to be much more organized this year! For starters, I ordered my favorite calendar called Day Designer.
Truth be told, organization is not my strong suit. (Hence my husband’s amusement.) If you take one look at the inside of my car or my desktop, you would come to that conclusion quickly. My New Year’s Resolution is to be more organized so, first things first, I need a new calendar! Last year I ordered this calendar/planner and it helped me immensely. So, I just bought another one for this year!
The planner is called Day Designer and is by Whitney English. It’s a stylish and well thought out calendar. It is designed to help you stay organized, prioritize your to-do lists and set goals so we can all “live a well designed life”. (Whitney English) By writing things down in one place, it helps me stay on course and remember important dates and events. The planners range in price from $16.99 to $54.00 depending on which size and style you like. You can find one similar here: ( Daily/Monthly Planner here )
The thing I love about this particular planner is it’s so user friendly. The first page of each section is the entire month at a glance. Following that page is a daily planner page. Each day is broken down by times, from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. and a to-do list. Each page also has a “Today’s Top Three” so you can prioritize your activities or goals and check them off when they are complete. (And doesn’t everyone love checking something off of their list?)
Each page of the planner has an inspirational quote or proverb, such as “From the withered tree a flower blooms.” (Proverb) At the bottom of each page has a box labeled, “tonight”. This box is designed to encourage you recap your day and plan for tomorrow. I like to use this box to plan meals or put a special television show or ball game on the calendar.
The last box is labeled, “gratitude” reminding us to take time to be grateful. I didn’t use this box last year, but I want to try to do it everyday this year to remind myself of my blessings. I’m not a technology person so I don’t like to use the calendar on my smart phone. I prefer writing something down. By writing something with pen and paper, I tend to remember it better, too. Also, it helps me keep track of appointments and when to give Lacey her doggie meds and when she last went to the vet and why.
There is a large section for notes. I am always jotting down thoughts and ideas and I love having my musings in one place. My planner measures 5″X8″ making it the perfect size to sit on my desk or put in my purse or briefcase. I always take it with me on trips so I can jot down places I’ve been or seen. It’s also helpful for plane and train schedules and to keep track of when our children come visit etc.
So, as soon as I got my new planner in the mail, I transferred birthdays, anniversaries and important dates from the old calendar to the new. I always save my old calendars for easy reference. But I must say this style of planner is by far my favorite, which is why I’ve bought it the last two years! So, if you don’t have your 2019 calendar yet, I’d encourage you to get this one! It’s available in different sizes and colors too. This year I bought the one with the Navy Stripe on the front.
Now that I have my new planner, I’ll never forget a thing! Next up on my organization list is my desk area. I would show you a picture but my desk is piled high with bills that need to paid, then filed. I still have a stack of Christmas cards there to remind me to update my address book. Then there are magazines, catalogs, my camera, and who knows what else? It’s not pretty. Not to worry, I have a plan for this area, too! For now it is my desk area, but will soon be converted into a “Petite Salon”.
Tomorrow I’ll share a how-to on making a jewelry organizer. See where I’m going here? By the end of the year my middle name will be Organized! Thank you for stopping by today. Today I’m grateful for my friends and family here who support my little blog! God bless you and I hope you have a great day! xoxo Dell
