Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I can’t wait to share with you my new fireplace screen, courtesy of Facebook Marketplace! Come check out my Peacock Fireplace Screen!
Honestly I’ve always had a soft spot for vintage fireplace screens so ever since we finished our new fireplace mantle and surround, I’ve kept an eye out. I wanted a single panel screen that would be easy to move when we want to use the fireplace, as well as keep our little grandson away from the pilot light. (Which he finds fascinating.) For the past few weeks I would check on FB Marketplace and finally found just what I was looking for! A vintage peacock fireplace screen! Here it is!
My husband said it reminded him of his grandmother, who had one too. (I wish she had passed it down to me. I’ll just pretend this one came from her. ) Not all peacock fireplace screens are the same. The fan part is usually the same but often the handle is in the shape of a sea shell and the stand is different too. They all fold up when not in use, but for me I love the look of it all fanned out. Thankfully this one fits the space like a glove!
This screen was listed as an antique so I asked the seller about its history. All she knew was her friend inherited it from her grandmother and it simply wasn’t her style, so she was selling it for her. All she wanted was $100 and I thought that was a fabulous deal! (Anytime I think something is a fair price I don’t haggle.) Some of these screens go for hundreds of dollars so I was thrilled to find this one in such good shape and a fair price. Isn’t the stand interesting? It looks like a lion with wings. Kind of like King Moonracer from the Island of Misfit Toys. (I have a thing for lions. And Rudolph.)
Can you tell I”m pretty tickled with my new fireplace screen? I think it adds just the right touch to this space. Now all I need is for Santa to bring me an Anthropologie mirror for Christmas! (I understand he gets a big discount around that time of year.)
I’ve scored quite a few things on FB Marketplace. How about you? What’s your favorite find? Do tell! Meanwhile, I hope you have a terrific day. Stay cool! xoxo Dell
