Happy Wednesday, friends! You may have heard of this before, but it’s new to me. Come check out a neat and clever way to make a salad. A salad in a Jar!
Last week my husband mentioned he had seen something cool on Facebook. It was a salad that someone made and put in a mason jar. I thought I would give it a try! So, I bought these pint size mason jars at the local dollar store. They were only $9 for all 12.
I washed all of the jars and lids in the dishwasher then I was ready to go! First of all I put about 3 tablespoons of dressing in the bottom of each jar. (I used ranch dressing in two and Italian dressing in the other 2.) Then I packed in chopped Romaine lettuce and Arugula, mashing it down compactly. Then I added some chopped rotisserie chicken. Next I added some chopped cucumbers, black olives, red onion and tomatoes. Wallah! A salad in a jar! (You can’t really see the tomatoes, but they are on the top under the lid.)
Here are two of the salads made with Italian dressing. See how tightly the lettuce is packed?
So, yesterday for lunch my husband and I each had a salad. How easy is that? You just dump the contents of the jar into a bowl and toss. We added some salt and fresh ground pepper as well.
I imagine the salads will keep for several days in the refrigerator. But wouldn’t this be a great idea to make ahead and take to work, or just have them on hand for a quick and healthy lunch or dinner? The chicken really helps make it filling and tasty. Or, when you are taking in food to someone who is sick or just had a baby, this would be so thoughtful. I am so in love with this idea, I bought enough ingredients to make several more of them. My husband suggested using a larger mason jar, which of course you can do. But I thought the pint size salad was perfect for me.
It’s so easy to put together these salads since you are chopping up everything at once anyway. So, just make an assembly line and fill the jars with your favorite dressing and ingredients. Screw on the top and refrigerate. Easy peasy!
Well, my precious grandson is on the way to spend the day with us. I hope you have a wonderful day! Let me know if you try these salad in a jars and how you like them. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs! xo Dell
