Hey, friends! Happy Wednesday! This post is almost a non-brainer but I thought I’d share it anyway. Honesty I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before! Check it out!
Last week when I got out my stash of American flags to decorate for the 4th of July, I noticed they were a bit wonky and wrinkled. And since our flag deserves the utmost respect, something needed to be done!
Case in point. Sad looking, right? I like to stick flags in my planters and all around outside for all of our patriotic holidays, but it seemed a bit disrespectful to display such wrinkled flags. So, I got out my ironing board and iron. I put the iron on the silk setting and added water to the iron for steam.
Then I carefully ironed each flag. Wallah! Perfectly ironed flags that look brand new despite the fact they are several years old. It only took a few minutes to iron all of the flags, but what a difference it makes! (Note: Every iron is different so be sure to go slowly at first to make sure your iron is not too hot for the fabric.)
I like to stick a few flags in my flower arrangements and planters for some added patriotic decor. For the buntings, (which were also wrinkled) I tossed them in the dryer with a damp cloth and hit the “touch-up” button. That knocked the wrinkles out of them before I hung them on the terrace railings with zip ties.
I stuck three of the ironed flags into my pot of geraniums which is on the veranda. See how pretty the flags look now that they are ironed? Obviously this will work on any size flag, large or small. Like I said, I’m embarrassed I didn’t think of this before. Who knew?
And a quick before and after. So, if you have wrinkled or dirty flags, be sure to clean and iron them before displaying them. God Bless America!
