Happy Wednesday, my friends! I’ve been meaning to share with you my newest little corner in the storage room, aka The Treasure Room. I turned this unused spot into something completely functional and fun! Come see how to make a gift wrap station!
If you’ve been following along for a while, you may remember I had a gift wrap station in a closet in our former basement. My husband added shelves and a work table for me for crafts and when I found this amazing wrapping paper rack, I knew I had to have it! This is how it looked in our last house. I had a petite crystal chandelier hanging from a hook to add task lighting. Clearly this was taken around Christmas because of all of the seasonal wrapping paper.
The work surface was counter height and had a handy stool to pull out for extended gift wrap sessions. I loved this little closet because I could pull the bi-fold doors closed to hide it when not in use. Usually I left it open because I thought it was so cute.
The gift wrap station featured large glass jars filled with tags and bows. (For when I get lazy and use a stick on bow instead of making one.) Everything was within arms reach, which was ideal.
So, when we moved to this house, I bought a new gift wrap organizer and hung it in my newly finished craft area in the basement. The directions come with detailed measurements on how to space and hang the screws, which is very helpful. Four perfectly spaced screws and the rack fits neatly and securely on top. (To see more of my new craft area see here:Craft Room Reveal!)
And here is the gift wrap station locked and loaded! I put birthday, wedding and baby gift wrapping paper on the rods since I had it on hand. It won’t be long until it’s time to switch it out to Christmas paper! Below the wall-mounted rack is an old dresser I had as a child. It’s still in fairly good shape since it’s a Link-Taylor and very well made. However, over the years some of the drawer glides have broken making some of the drawers a little wonky, but I still can’t bear to part with it. So, instead, I turned it into the mother of all gift wrap holders! I put a plastic measuring guide on top of the dresser to protect the finish.
In each of the drawers I put gift wrapping supplies. One drawer holds extra tape, scissors and labels.
Another drawer holds various sizes of gift bags. If the bags are in good shape, it makes perfect sense to reuse them. By the way, Amazon has the greatest gift wrap bags, don’t they? Last year, my younger son ordered most of his gifts from Amazon, and they all were delivered to our house, completely gift wrapped! This is perfect since he is always coming in for the holidays from out of town. The bags are so nice and easy to use again and again! The same goes for wine bags. I like to save those and reuse them as well. They fold neatly and store flat in the drawer.
This drawer holds assorted sizes of gift boxes, collapsed of course, for easy storage.
The bottom drawer holds supplies necessary to make gift baskets, including filler, a few baskets and clear shrink wrap to go over the completed baskets.
Then, so I don’t stand there and open every drawer, every time to find what I’m looking for, I labeled the contents of each drawer with my handy-dandy label maker by DYMO. I put the labels directly on the drawer pull so as not to damage the wood.
Now a quick glance is all it takes to find the perfect box or bag. Hmmm. I’m thinking DYMO should make a senior version of the label maker and have the words 2-3 times larger. I could be on to something! Anyway, the labels really do help.
All of my gift wrapping supplies are corralled in one place making it super handy! Next time I need to wrap a present, everything will be at my fingertips. My little craft area is coming together nicely. As Marie Kondo says, it is sparking joy, big time!
Do you have a special place where you wrap gifts? I admit sometimes I still wind up on the floor if the gift is too large for my gift wrap station. Can you believe that Christmas is 118 days from today? YES! This year I plan on being super organized and have all of my shopping done early, as well as my wrapping. Right! That’s what I say every year. Anyway, thanks for stoping by today. I apologize I’ve been a bit MIA here lately. Lots, and lots going on. But, I hope to soon share with you some new recipes, tips and fall decorating ideas!! Have a great day! xoxo Dell
