Happy Wednesday, friends! It’s already been a crazy, busy week and it’s only half over! We hosted a birthday party last night for my father-in-law who turned 87! Then, we have my Mother’s 80th birthday party this weekend. But, I wanted to share with you the chandelier I had installed in one of our guest rooms recently. And it’s not the one I originally planned to put in here! Come see the chandelier makeover!
Recently I gave one of the guest rooms in our basement a makeover. To see more of the transformation, see here :Guest Room Update! During the process, I decided to have the ceiling fan and light taken down and replaced with a vintage chandelier. (Shocker, I know.)
I found this vintage crystal chandelier on Facebook Marketplace. I thought it was a great price given the size and scale of the fixture. The guy I bought it from seemed to think only a few minor repairs were needed. Little did I know! Perhaps I should take some wiring/electrical classes? This is how it looked when I got it home…
The chandelier is brownish/gold, has a great shape and looks pretty old. The tag on the top says it was made in Italy. My electrician said it looked old to him too, because of the cloth wrapped around the wiring. I gave it to him to work his magic and he ended up rewiring the whole thing! (I have the best electrician ever! Thanks, Bob!)
Once Bob finished re-wiring the fixture, I cleaned it and touched it up with Rub ‘n Buff in Gold Leaf. This really brought it back to life! Then, I cleaned all of the crystals and added some more vintage ones from my stash. My sister gave me just enough of the small teardrop crystals to go all around the eight bobeches. And here she is in her new home! The light is on a dimmer and is SOOOOO much prettier than the original ceiling fan that previously held this spot.
This room is dubbed, “Nic’s Room” because this is where our younger son and his little dog, Delilah, stay when they visit. At first I was going to give this room a more manly vibe, but in the end I decided to decorate it with a lighter and more neutral feel, (Because I’m the Momma) So, chandelier it is! Just think, Nic, one day this chandelier will be all yours!
You can see in the left corner, there is a very large, masculine leather chair and ottoman, so it’s not all girly-girly.
And, if it makes you feel any better, Nic, this is your brother and sister-in-law’s room. LOL.
I think I am running out of places to put chandeliers. Can it be true? Maybe Happy Hill Cottage needs a few more! Now that the guest rooms are nearly complete (except for a little artwork and accessories) it’s time to focus on a few other projects around here. But first, a BIG birthday party for my beautiful Mother!
Thank you for stopping by! I’ve been a bit preoccupied lately, so please forgive me for being more absent lately. (ADD kicking in?) But, I have been better about posting on Instagram, so be sure to check out my latest pictures on @dellsdailydish! Hope you have a great day! What do you think of the chandelier? Do you like a little bling or would you rather have a ceiling fan? Let’s chat soon! xoxo Dell
