Happy Labor Day weekend, sweet friends! You may be wondering about the title of today’s blog post. Is it a famous artist? The name of an opera singer? A new strain of flu? Post nasal drip? Come find out!
A few weeks ago I bought a fireplace screen I found on Facebook Marketplace near Charlotte. (In case you missed it, you can read about it here: Peacock Fireplace Screen! On the way home I passed a Goodwill store that I’d never been to before. I had a twenty dollar bill and it was burning a hole in my pocket so I decided to stop in! I immediately went to the home decor section and spotted a huge framed print of two birds. The title on the print was “Pavo Muticus”. I thought that was probably the artist so I googled it on my phone.
Turns out that Pavo Muticus is a green peafowl or Indonesian peafowl that resembles a peacock. Who knew? The male bird is huge and measures 5 ft. 11 in. to 9 ft. 10″ in total length. That’s a BIG BIRD! Anyway, here is what the picture looked like. I couldn’t take my eyes off of the beautiful and rich colors of the birds and the matting. So, I bought it!
I decided to hang it over the green marble top table in our entry way. The green matting matches perfectly with the table! The gold frame measures an impressive 24 inches by 39 inches and is probably quadruple matted with green, blue and gold. This picture was probably hundreds of dollars originally. Guess what I paid for it?
That’s right. $15!!!! (Not sure why it required two price stickers, but oh well.) See the detail on the mats?
When I was at the Goodwill store, I didn’t really know where I would put it, but at $15, I couldn’t walk away. Now I’m glad I didn’t! I love it in this spot! It adds a bit of color and drama to this space. (And I have $5 to spare. haha) This mirror was here originally, and I loved it, but this picture is a nice change. Of course this caused a domino effect and several mirrors got moved around. Don’t you love changing things up every now and again?
Well, thanks for stopping by! Don’t be afraid to purchase something for a great price even if you don’t have a place for it yet. I know this picture wouldn’t have lasted long at Goodwill and I would have kicked myself for not snapping it up! Have a great day! xoxo Dell
