Happy Friday, friends! While my husband was away last weekend on an annual golf outing with his buddies, I decided it was the perfect time to give our little powder bath a makeover. Come check out my newly painted powder bathroom!
This project has been in the works for a few weeks and I knew the perfect time to paint was when my husband was going to be away. But first things first, I had to choose a color! I went to my local Sherwin-Williams Paint Store and brought home about a dozen color swatches in shades of green and blue. My goal was to go bold in this small space while matching an existing piece of artwork. I bought a large Monet painting years ago as a happy moving gift to myself and I still love it. The dominant colors are blues and greens so that was my starting point. After much pondering, I chose a color of green called “Sheraton Sage” (SW 0014).
For the prep work, I had my husband take down the artwork and mirror before he left town. Then I had to borrow a ladder from my sweet friend. This room has tall ceilings so I needed an 8 foot ladder, which we didn’t have. Thankfully my friend’s ladder was the perfect height and fairly lightweight making it easy for me to maneuver in this space. I had to raise up the chandelier too so the ladder wouldn’t hit it. It’s all ready!
I painted the trim around the sconces, in the corners, and all around the perimeter of the room.
I used a small roller to paint behind and around the toilet. A larger roller worked perfectly to roll the rest of the bathroom.
After a few hours of work, the painting was finished! A few days later when my husband came home, he helped me rehang the mirror and here’s how it turned out!
This room is small so it’s a bit difficult to photograph, but this angle is a good representation on how the color looks in the space. I love it!
On the opposite wall of the painting is a magazine rack. Always handy and adds an additional pop of color.
And a little before and after picture. While I didn’t mind the neutral white, I’ve been longing for a bit of drama in this space. For just around $50 I was able to paint this room myself and transform it into a little jewelry box of a room. And the green really makes the gold accessories stand out! On a side note: This green has a light reflective value (or LRV) of 24 out of 100. This refers to how dark or light a paint color will look on a scale of 0, being black, to 100 which is white. The lower the LRV number is, the darker the paint color will be. This number is located on the back of the most paint chips and will allow you to judge how dark or light a paint will appear in any given room. So, if you are looking for a particular hue, be sure to check out the LRV on the back to see if the paint has a dark or light value.
Well, what do you think? Are you a lover of color or a more neutral palette? Honestly, I love a little of everything. And the beauty of paint is it’s fairly inexpensive and easy to change if you don’t like it. Meanwhile, I’m LOVING it!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Please drop me a line and let me know what you think about my latest project and what you are up to these days! I’d love to hear from you! And it’s FRIDAY! Happy weekend to you! May the Good Lord bless you and watch over you and yours. xoxo Dell
