Happy Monday, friends! Have you seen the hot trend of accent walls and floors? It’s a great way to add character and interest to any room. And it need not cost a fortune! Come see how to create accent walls and floors with paint!
My sister and her husband recently added a major addition to their home. They built a master suite, complete with a bedroom, bathroom, walk-in closets and an office. Wanting to add a unique twist to their new bathroom, they decided to add an accent wall. And who better to help them with this than their beautiful granddaughter? This happens to be her specialty!
My sister’s eldest granddaughter, Tori and her husband recently purchased their first home and are renovating and updating it room by room. Tori is a natural home improvement wiz! She’s already fearlessly tackled numerous projects in their new home. Take the laundry room for example. The linoleum was in good shape but needed a little update to better suit this modern, newlywed couple. So, Tori set to work. This is the before picture. (Pictures of Tori’s projects were taken from her Instagram account with her permission. @toribyrd_diy)
Tori completely transformed the look of the linoleum in the laundry room with paint! She painted the floors white then added bold black stripes. Doesn’t this look fabulous? Timeless and classic!
Isn’t this amazing? A girl after my own heart!!
And a side by side comparison. WOW! I love it!
Then, in a guest bathroom again Tori painted the linoleum floor. She took this nondescript flooring to a whole new level! This is the before picture…
And this is the after picture. It looks like high-end tile! Awesome job!
I’ve not attempted this myself, but Tori says this is a very labor-intensive project. I’m thinking this is probably best left to patient, twenty something go-getters like Tori. (Plus, I’m not sure if my knees or back could handle this anymore.) What a great way to update a room without a huge budget, but obviously lots of patience and talent. Nice work!
So naturally, when my sister and her husband wanted to add some personality to their new bathroom, they turned to Tori! She painted the nook where the claw foot tub will go with a paint by HGTV called Dromedary Camel.
Once the base coat was dry, Tori carefully taped off the stripes with blue painter’s tape using 8 inch intervals. This step is the tricky part since she had to accurately measure the stripes and make sure the tape is level vertically.
Don’t you love a hard worker with a pretty smile on her face?
Once the entire nook was taped off, Tori painted the accent stripes. (The darker stripes are by HGTV called Tranquil Tan.) Once the paint was dry, she pulled off the tape. Didn’t it turn out beautifully?
The bold, crisp stripes add interest and character to the tub nook. It almost looks like wallpaper!
Here is the bathroom with the claw-foot tub in place. The stripes look amazing! After the final inspection, my sister, Wendy will hang a beautiful crystal chandelier over the tub. I know it will look perfect! Only then will the bathroom be truly complete!
Wendy added a favorite, romantic print over the tub by Jack Vettriano called, “In thoughts of you”.
Fluffy towel, candle and bath oil? Check! This beautiful nook is ready for its first soak of many!
I am so impressed with Tori and her talents! If you’d like to see more of her handiwork, be sure to check out her Instagram account @toribyrd_diy. Tori can answer specific questions about her techniques and products used. Can I adopt you, Tori? Just thinking out loud…
Our pastor recently talked about using one’s talents to help others as “God Sightings”. Tori has many God-given gifts and I love that she is sharing them with her family. Nice job, Tori! I can’t wait to see your next project, and thank you for letting me share your skills here on my blog! (Bathroom photo credits go to Wendy Pridgen)
Thank you, my friends for stopping by and supporting my blog. I hope you have a wonderful day! xoxo Dell
