Greetings and Happy Monday! We’ve been super busy the last week getting our younger son moved into his new apartment in D.C. I’m working on a few goodies to take to his apartment this coming weekend and I wanted to share a quick little pickle jar craft!
Over the weekend we moved our son from New York City to Washington, DC for his new job! We are SO excited for his new opportunity and life in a brand new city! We hired movers to load and unload on each end which was a HUGE help. And worth every penny I must say!
We got most of the boxes unpacked but we still need to organize his closet and dress clothes and hang pictures. This is personally my favorite part! I’m taking a few things from his old room at our house and moving them to his new place. Finally a place to call his own! For his new bathroom I decided to make these cute little jars to hold some needed toiletries.
As I’ve done so many times before I started with a pickle jar. After cleaning the labels and residue off of the jars, I washed them thoroughly in the dishwasher. I’ve found Goo Gone and a razor are the best tools for removing the labels and sticky residue.
I spray painted the lids with black paint. On one jar I glued a gold knob to the top and the other jar a black knob. (E6000 glue is the best!) Using stickers I had on hand I put a “B” sticker on one and an “N” on the other along with some decorative swirls and flourishes.
I filled one jar with Q-Tips and the other jar with a mix of miniature soaps, cotton balls, shampoos and conditioners. He has a handy little shelf above the toilet in the bathroom and these will look cute sitting on the shelf. I added raffia to one of the jars for fun. Having grown up with me, my son will not be surprised in the least at my little addition to his bathroom. I know he will laugh and say thanks, Mom!
Later this week with tools and fun decor in hand, off I go again. My son starts his new job next week, so his Dad and I want to make sure he is settled in and can hit the ground running on Monday! If he’ll let me, I’ll share some pics of his new place. Meanwhile, this is the aftermath of his old room at our house…. Needless to say there is MUCH work to be done in here to restore it to some sort of order. I miss him already. 🙁
Thank you for stopping by! Hope you have a great week! xoxo Dell
