TGIF everyone! I am looking forward to the weekend and my weekly date night with my husband! Meanwhile I am still in decorating and crafting mode. Today I’m working on a Jewelry Christmas tree decoration made from vintage jewelry. Come check it out!
A few years ago I saw a pretty Christmas tree decoration made from old jewelry. I decided to make one myself! I bought a tall styrofoam tree shaped form (about 17 inches tall) and gathered lots of old gold jewelry pieces. There are brooches, earrings and pendents of all sizes and shapes.
I allowed the spray paint to get to room temperature and then ran outside and gave it a quick coat of paint. Most of the jewelry pieces that I collected were gold already but those that were not also got a coat of gold paint. (This cold weather is really cramping my painting style.) I would recommend wearing gloves for this step but if you don’t, Goo Gone works like a charm. I should know.
Once the paint was dry it was a simple process of gluing the pieces on to the tree form. Be careful, the glue gun gets really hot! The entire process took about an hour. I started at the bottom with the larger pieces and worked my way to the top. I filled in the gaps with the smaller pieces. Small post earrings are perfect for this. I love how it turned out!
So happy gold is back! I put the jewelry tree on a small gold plate and stand. I like the added height it gives the tree and it looks nice next to the gold leaf candle holders.
How do you like the Christmas Jewelry tree? I’ve seen this done also on a board inside a frame using heirloom jewelry. My pieces came from consignment stores and eBay, so the pieces are not special to me in any way so I don’t feel guilty about using them for a craft project. This would be equally pretty with all white or pearl jewelry. I do have a tiny headache from the paint smell and a few burned fingers…
I wish you a happy and productive weekend! Stop back by soon and I’ll hopefully share more decorating progress!! I’m aiming to get my other tree up and the banisters adorned by Monday! Thanks for stopping by! xo Dell
