HE’S HERE!!!! Happy, happy day, my friends! My husband and I are extremely pleased to announce the birth of our first grandchild! A healthy baby boy graced our presence one week ago on February 4, 2020! They say there is nothing better than seeing one of your babies have a baby. And it’s true! Want to hear a funny story?…..
As soon as my husband and I found out our son and daughter-in-law were expecting a baby boy in February 2020, my husband was ultra-excited because his birthday is February 4th. He predicted that our grandson would be born on his birthday, despite the fact the baby wasn’t due until February 17th. The doctors said the baby could come early, so that encouraged my husband even more. The rest of us knew it was a long shot at best, and thought he would end up disappointed.
A little background….32 years ago when I was pregnant with our older son, he was a week past his due date. My husband and I went out for pizza one night and later that night I went into labor. My husband has always been convinced a spicy pizza was the trigger that sent me into labor. So, guess what he did? This year, the night before my husband’s 60th birthday, he ordered a pizza delivery sent to our son and daughter-in-law. Our son sent us a picture of the pizza, and we all had a good laugh, and went to bed.
But, sometime during the night, our daughter-in-law went into labor! It worked! Our son called us at 6:00 am on February 4th and said they were at the hospital and the baby was expected to be born that day! We jumped out of bed and drove as quickly as we could to the hospital. (640 miles away.)
So, our grandson WAS born on my husband’s 60th birthday. Even more amazing, the time of birth was only off by 17 minutes, 60 years to the day! We made it to the hospital just in time for the birth and got to see our tiny bundle of joy shortly thereafter. And here we are! The beaming and proud Pop and Didi, and our precious grandson! Thankfully and happily, Mommy and baby are just fine!
To add to the merriment, our grandson is named after his Daddy and Granddaddy! My husband’s name is Bradford Carlton Barton. Instead of having a junior, we decided to name our son Bradford Chase Barton. Hence, they have the same first and last name and same initials. Our son and his wife decided to carry on the tradition and have their own little BCB. They named their son, Bradford Cole, and will call him Ford. (which I LOVE!) This is a tiny sweater outfit we had monogrammed for him.
I have a feeling that little Ford and my husband will have a special bond as the years unfold. And my husband will always be proud that our first grandson was born on his birthday just as he wished! Talk about a perfect 60th birthday gift! Here are the 3 BCB’s and our grand-dog Belle. (On a side note, our son says that Belle is in love with her baby brother and tries to lick his feet and head and doesn’t like it when he cries.)
Our family is so happy our baby is finally here and is healthy and thriving. My husband and I were able to see our grandson for the first few days of his life and we will always treasure these wonderful memories. And we look forward to many, many more! So, please forgive me if I talk about him non-stop and buy fun things for him and his nursery. Aren’t babies meant to be spoiled? My husband keeps telling me to stop buying things for the baby, but I can’t help myself! What’s a Didi to do?
I predict this week may be entirely dedicated to all things baby, but I am working on a few fun furniture projects that I’ll share next week. Meanwhile, thank you for stopping by and visiting my little slice of blog universe. I hope you have a great day! xoxo Dell aka Didi.
