Happy Monday, friends! Did you make some New Year’s Resolutions this year? I made a few but one I am most serious about is getting our house organized! So, I started the first week of January and so far I have tackled several drawers and cabinets. Come see my progress!.
The first week of January, I started my drawer organization project! It started in our master bathroom under the sinks and in the drawers. I sorted through all of our medicines and vitamins and discarded anything that was out of date. Then I got rid of any extra items such as old razors and hair accessories like old curling irons, etc. All of the medicines and first aid items went into one drawer. I put all of my toiletries in a basket under my sink and did the same for my husband. All total I threw out a garbage bag full of junk from our bathroom! That felt great!
I tackled a drawer or two at a time ever since. The other day I cleaned out and organized a few drawers in our Butler’s Pantry. Both had somehow become junk drawers and I decided to get rid of the junk and better utilize the space. This drawer was filled with napkins, old cell phone paraphernalia, and oyster shuckers and small forks. (I don’t know how and why all of this landed in this drawer, but it did.) I thought this drawer could be better used as a space to hold important things that I don’t have room for in my kitchen drawer. So, out with everything. I got rid of some of the things in my donation bag and relocated the things I’ll use in the future
I emptied the drawer and vacuumed and wiped it out. And here’s how it looks now! I put our extra foil, wax paper, parchment paper, straws, party picks and extra zip lock bags. Now they are easy to find and just a few steps away from the kitchen. So much better!
This is another drawer that was filled with junk. A few strikers, some water filters, chair pads, night lights, flower food packets, chip clips and a bag of sea shells. Just what every kitchen needs!
I figured this space would be better utilized as a place to store our batteries which were scattered in several places throughout the house and some in a shoe box in the garage. I could never find the size I needed at any given time. Or if I couldn’t find them, I would buy more and end up with too many of one kind. So, I had this wooden organizer in the garage and thought it would be perfect to organize our batteries!
I”m feeling pretty proud of myself so far in my organization project! I had some extra room for a few chip clips but this is officially the battery drawer! Now they are all in one place and I can tell when we are running low on one size or the other. No more rummaging through a box in the garage or multiple drawers!
I have a LONG way to go but this is a nice start! A few before and afters!
And another drawer…..
My goal is to donate, recycle or trash 10 things each week. This can be from a closet, attic, or basement. It can even be as simple as going through my magazines and recycling ones that I’ve read or are a few years old. Or cleaning out my purse. By the end of the year I should be fabulously organized! (Well, maybe except for my Treasure Room. That’s another story. After all, they are treasures and not junk.)
So what is your goal for the new year? Please share! Well, thanks for stopping by and I hope to chat with you soon! I have a few fun and easy recipes I want to share so stay tuned! Have a great day! xoxox Dell
