Greetings and Happy Tuesday! I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! We certainly did, but now our thoughts are on the upcoming storm, so here is how we are preparing for Hurricane Irma 2017…
After Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast so badly a few years ago, I decided to be better prepared next time. So with Hurricane Irma heading our way, I am doing all that I can to be prepared in the event of a power outage or emergency.
Recently I purchased a multi band radio. I bought it on Amazon and it’s called the Kaito Voyager KA500 Solar & Crank weather alert multi band radio. You can find it here: http://KA500 Kaito Voyager Multiband Radio It’s around $50. There are several other similar radios but I like the compact nature of this one and it is water resistant. It is battery and solar powered and also has a hand crank. This little radio has 11 radio bands, AM/FM stations and a NOAA weather alert that sends an emergency wireless signal to the radio for local weather disaster news.
This little device is also a shortwave radio, and features a flashlight and reading lamp. The antenna is retractable and the solar panel flips up and down for easy use. It also operates on 3 AA batteries. (not included)
There is a built in port in the back of the unit where you can charge your cell phone or computer. So, in case of a power outage, we will be able to hear important weather updates as well as keep our mobile devices charged. (as long as there is cell service!) You can plug in the usb charger in the back and turn it on. This little device is small and lightweight and has a strap on top so you can carry or hang it easily. I’m glad we have it just in case!
Below is a link to a list of items you’ll need in case of an emergency. It includes typical things like batteries, flashlights, water, food, medicines, etc. It’s a very comprehensive list so I thought I’d share it.
So, do yourself a favor and start preparing now and don’t wait until the last minute! I plan to make a run to the store by tomorrow so we will be stocked and ready. I’ll also fill up the gas tank in my car and have extra gas on hand for the chain saw and blower if necessary. And because my brother owns a tree service, we can call him if we have any fallen trees. Also if you are in the Charlotte, N.C. or Lake Norman area you can contact him here: http://apersonaltouchtreeservice.com
After seeing the devastation in Texas with Hurricane Harvey, I think we will all take this storm very seriously but pray that it won’t hit landfall. So, please be careful out there and do what you can now so you can best take care of your family and friends.
Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you have a wonderful day. And be safe out there later this week! xoxo Dell
