Happy Monday, Friends! Over the weekend my husband and I went to a surprise birthday party for one of our friends. So what did we find as a gift for someone turning 50? A Dr. Seuss Book! Of course there is a Dr. Seuss book for every occasion!
I hope you had a lovely weekend! My husband and I attended a surprise 50th birthday celebration over the weekend for a special friend. It was such a wonderful evening filled with great friends, conversation, food and drink. But what do you get as a gift for the man who has everything? Milestone birthdays, such as 50 are lots of fun and gag gifts usually rule the day.
My husband and I wanted to get a fun/gag gift so I googled “books for men over 50” and I came up with a book by Dr. Seuss about aging. It’s called “You Only Get Old Once” and was written by Dr. Seuss when he was 82 years old and going through all of the cliche doctor visits and the usual signs of aging we all experience. It’s filled with classic rhymes typical of Dr. Seuss such as, “You must see Dr. Pollen, our Allergy Whiz, who knows every sniffle and itch that there is…He will check your reactions to thumbtacks and glue, catcher’s mitts, leaf mould and cardigans too.” Naturally the book is illustrated in classic Seuss fashion.
The book got great reviews online so we ordered it on Amazon Prime and received it two days later. We signed and dated the inside of the book for our friend. I’d never heard of this book before so I was happy to find it. I’ll definitely give this away as a gift in the future. It would also be cute as a retirement gift and have all of the co-workers sign it.
This book reminded me of another Dr. Seuss book about birthdays. My Aunt Marlene gave me this book when I turned 7 and I still have it! Wouldn’t this be a cute gift for a child’s birthday party and have all of the guests sign the book?
It’s also available in French:
And Hebrew:
I didn’t know about the “Happy Birthday, Baby” book until recently either. This one has interactive flaps and gadgets for baby to touch and feel. Apparently this one is a little bit easier to read and understand for the younger set than the Happy Birthday Book.
Another Aunt gave one of these Dr. Seuss books to our boys when they graduated from high school. It’s a “perennial favorite and a perfect gift for anyone starting a new phase in their lives” such as college or moving out. My Aunt signed the book along with a personal note and added a card and check. Such a sweet gift. And easy to ship! Of course, hoarder that I am, we still have these books too.
If you are a lover of books like I am, you probably enjoy giving books as gifts, too. Just in case one or more of these books are new to you, like they were to me, I hope you enjoy them! I loved reading books to my boys every night and Dr. Seuss books were always a favorite and sure to get a giggle out of them. What’s your favorite Seuss book?
Well, I have lots of chores on my list today. Thanks for stopping in and have a great day! xoxo Dell
