Greetings and happy Wednesday! Guess what I’m doing today? My younger son has accepted a new job in Washington, DC and is moving this weekend! So, with a trunk full of packing goodies, off I go!
In the whirlwind of life, just like that, my son found a new job in DC! And he starts in two weeks! Today we are packing up his apartment and the movers are coming later this week to load. We are super excited about the new job and opportunity and thankful that this move is happening now and not closer to the time of the wedding!
Our community has a Facebook page where folks can list items they wish to get rid of free of charge. This is the ultimate in recycling! People list things such as baby items, clothing, swing sets, furniture and curb alerts. So when I started looking for boxes and packing materials for my son, this was the first place I looked. I did buy some box tape from the local Uhaul dealer but other than that, we had the plastic wrap on hand and the other things were free. It really cuts down on moving costs. And as you can imagine, moving expenses are expensive!!
Today we hope to tag all of the heavy items for the movers and pack up the smaller and fragile items ourselves. We’ve done several moves over the years so this is par for the course. The last time we moved him we moved in less than a week. Naturally it helps to purge things you no longer need or use before hand. (Enter the free page or donations.)
So if you are moving and need packing materials, check your local Facebook page or start a free Facebook page in your community. Our neighborhood even has its own Facebook page where we can share information or advertise something for free or for sale. Both are great ways to give back to your community! Once we get my son moved, we will pay it forward with his boxes. Wish us luck! xoxo Dell
