Happy Wednesday, friends! Yesterday was a whirlwind of activity. The flooring guys came back bright and early to finish the vinyl flooring in the basement. They had a room and a half to complete plus the moulding. Come check out the update!
The flooring guys finished installing the vinyl flooring in the basement yesterday. I must say, they were so fast and did such a great job! Shout out to Westport Flooring in Denver, NC for a job well done! We couldn’t be happier! The guys finished around 2:30 pm which gave my husband, Brad, and me, plenty of time to vacuum and clean and start to put the furniture back into place. But check out the new floors!
Previously, when I thought of vinyl, I always thought of long, rolled out sheets of linoleum with a pattern stamped on top. But this is totally different! See the boxes in the background? Well, that’s how this flooring is packaged. It’s installed very similarly to real hardwood floors. There is a tongue and groove edge and each piece must be measured, cut, and hammered into place. The installers cut the pieces as close to the baseboards as possible then tapped in a quarter round piece of molding to finish the edges. (They even pre-painted the quarter-round molding to match the existing trim prior to installation. Such professionals!)
This is the main guest room with a king size bed. In preparation for the flooring installation, Brad and I cleaned out the majority of small furniture and knickknacks, making it easier for the installers to move the heavy pieces from one end of the room to the other as they worked.
This is the other guest room in the basement. I think the flooring turned out beautifully!
The installers staged the empty boxes, old carpet and padding in the garage, but took them away each day, leaving everything super clean and tidy!
We asked them NOT to put most if the furniture back in place because we wanted to clean each room first. Plus, we plan on rearranging some of the rooms and placement of the furniture. Now that the flooring is finished, I am itching to start with our new plans!
For the longest time my husband and I were at a loss as to how we wanted to decorate this basement. Did we want to use it as an entertainment area with a large screen tv? Or did we want another pool table? Or both? This past weekend we went to the mountains with some friends and we all played pool. We really enjoyed ourselves and realized how much we missed having a pool table when our children come or we entertain. So, a pool table it is! Now that our pretty new floors are in, we can better visualize the space. Plus, the way we repurposed some of the other furniture makes this a perfect solution!
We are still working on the basement and will be for quite a while. I need to paint some of the rooms and switch out some light fixtures. I”ll be sure to share our progress along the way. But, today we took a much needed break to babysit our adorable grandson! And as they say, housework will keep, babies won’t! So, we got in lots of playtime and snuggles with this little munchkin. Isn’t he the cutest?
My goal is to have the entire basement put together and finished by the holidays when our children come. Soon they will each have their own private bedroom and bathroom combination with lots of sparkly chandeliers! But, who’s kidding who? As soon as I get finished with the basement it will be time to decorate for Christmas! LOL.
We think the vinyl flooring looks great and will certainly hold up much better than carpet or real hardwoods. No more worrying about spills! Our son said today that he was impressed with how good the floors looked and the basement finally looked the way it should have all along. We totally agree! Now, I’m off to put the clean sheets back on the beds and do a little more rearranging. Have a great evening! xoxo Dell
