Hello, Friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We have been away for a few weeks and finally got home last night. I wan’t able to see the yard last night since it was dark. But this morning I got a glimpse of Vacation Yard. A sad state of affairs…
Going away for vacation is lovely, but sometimes things back home suffer as a result of your absence. Take for instance my poor yard. This planting bed is at the end of our driveway near the road. Before I left for vacation, it was a big mess of periwinkle. It was overrun with weeds, and grass so I sprayed it with Roundup. That stuff really works!
And this is the other side of the driveway next to the mailbox. It was a sad mix of periwinkle, weeds, and somehow wild strawberries. Hello, more roundup.
Good news is while we were away the weed killer worked its magic. So while I was mowing the grass, I mowed right over the mostly dead periwinkle. I wouldn’t recommend doing this while the periwinkle is still thriving. The vines get tangled around the blade. It’s not good. I should know from past experience. Kill it first. Here’s how it looks now:
It’s still not quite completely dead so I sprayed it with more roundup. Soon it will be sincerely dead. (Cue the Munchkins from Wizard of Oz.)
More sad yard news? My big urn looks like this now:
And the swimming pool grew a lovely green algae.
And this enormous frog moved in. I can’t even describe how big this frog is, but I can assure you he gave me quite a fright when I uncovered the skimmer basket. People from two streets over probably heard me scream.
But Lacey thought he was fabulous and wanted him to come out and play.
But there was also some good news! The fertilizer kicked in and the grass is beautiful! My mandevilla is gorgeous and full of huge pink blooms.
My ferns, tomato plants and annuals are goners but my Crepe Myrtle is blooming so it is not a total loss. And here is Lacey, wet and pouting because she couldn’t catch the frog and I wouldn’t let her out to chase the neighbor’s dog.
But, we played lots of fun games after so she was happy again! I’ll work on the big urn and the yard over the next few weeks and I’ll share the improvements! Hope you have a wonderful day! xox Dell & Lacey. <3
