Happy Thursday, friends! Today I want to share with you a fabulous idea for a gift, just in time for Valentine’s Day, or Mother’s Day! It’s a subscription to a flower arrangement of the month from The Bouqs Company! Come check it out! @thebouqsco
For Christmas this year, my son and daughter-in-law gifted me with a wonderful present! They bought me a subscription for a flower arrangement once a month, delivered to my door, through a company called, The Bouqs Company. (That’s pronounced, /th’ah boo’k’s/ as in short for bouquet.) Bouqs specializes in farm-direct flowers from all over the world.
The Bouqs website is www.thebouqs.com is where you go to sign up. You can have a bouquet sent just once or sign up for a subscription. Naturally, you can choose a recipient, or the recipient can be you! Simply click on the “subscription” button and it will walk you though the process. They allow you to customize your plan as to how large the flower arrangement will be, how often it will be delivered, etc. For instance, if you choose the original plan, it’s about $36 per month and comes with 10-16 stems. The Deluxe Plan, which is the most popular, runs around $48 and comes with 20-32 stems. The Grand Plan is $60 and comes with 30-45 stems. My first flower arrangement came right before Christmas and was said to be from South Africa. It was very unusual and exotic!
This was the feature flower called a “hydnangiaceae.” Honestly I can’t pronounce it but it was very cool, and I’ve never seen anything like it! It almost looked like a Venus Fly Trap with the tentacles sticking out. (Or maybe like Yoda.)
The second shipment, which arrived earlier this week, was much more my style with beautiful pink roses and lilies. (My favorite color.) The small round green fillers are called “Tutsan”. (courtesy of my Picture This app.) My son pointed out they look similar to the buds on a Crepe Myrtle.
Once your fresh flowers arrive on your doorstep, it’s best to unpack them immediately and put them in water. The instructions recommend you trim at least one inch off of each stem at a 45 -degree angle and that stems look best 4 inches above your chosen vase. Also, remove any leaves that fall below the waterline to keep the water bacteria-free.
They include a packet of plant food to add to the water. To help blooms stay fresh longer, they recommend you change the water every other day and trim a little off of each stem. The Bouqs Company suggests you start building your arrangement first by adding the greenery, then the smaller blooms and finish up with the focal point flowers, in this case, the lilies. When this arrangement arrived a few days ago, the roses were opening up nicely but the lilies were still closed. To add a little fullness to the arrangement until the lilies bloom, I clipped about 3 stems of greenery from my camellia bush and added it to the flowers.
Then, two days ago, one of the lilies bloomed! It’s so gorgeous, and the smell is intoxicating!
Today, I changed the water and added another packet of plant food I had on hand from some of my grocery store flowers. I trimmed a bit off of the bottoms and rearranged them back in the vase. It’s sitting on our coffee table for now and I can smell the flowers as soon as I walk into the room!
Here are the flowers sitting on my kitchen island. They are so beautiful and fragrant, I keep hauling them around the house so I can enjoy them wherever I happen to be!
