Spice Jars with Labels!

Happy Tuesday, friends!  Over the weekend my husband and I tackled a small project I’ve been wanting to do for a while.  We switched out all of our old spice jars with new spice jars with labels!  This is the old look so come over and see the “after”!

When we bought our house, one of the drawers in the kitchen already had a spice jar organizer, which I think is really cool.  It allows you to see all of your most used spices at a glance.  It has four tiers, is plastic and easy to clean.  (These organizers can be found on Amazon, Target, or Ikea for as little $20.  (Simply Google “spice drawer organizers”)

Here is how my spice drawer looked before.  Some of the bottles were round, some square and all of them mis-matched, and different sizes.  Honestly it was driving me crazy!  It was very unorganized to say the least.

So, I decided to buy new, uniform spice jars with pre-printed labels.  I found these on Amazon.  A box of 24 glass              4 ounce jars are about $34.

I needed 36 jars to fit my drawer, so I ordered 2 sets for a total of $63.96.

Each set includes labels for the front of the jars and are numbered in alphabetical order making it easy to find your spices in your drawer or cabinet.

The kit also comes with corresponding labels for the lids of the jars.  They are also numbered.

As soon as the jars arrived, I took them apart and washed the jars in the dishwasher.  (I didn’t wash the shaker lids or the lids, but just wiped them off with a damp cloth.)  I let them drip dry in the dishwasher and then turned them upside down over night on paper towels to make sure they were completely dry.

The following day, my husband and I formed an assembly line.  I poured the contents from each of the old spice jars into the new jars and he applied the labels.  It sure made the process go much quicker with two people.  And here is my new and organized spice drawer!

Here’s a tip.  Make sure you screw the lids on firmly before applying the label to the top of the jar making sure the labels on the front line up with the labels on the lids.  And here’s a before and after.  Much prettier and so much more organized.  I love it and find myself opening the drawer just to remind myself how nice it looks.

Each spice jar holds 4 ounces of spices which is very similar in size to standard spice jars you find at the grocery store.  The square shape keeps the spices stationary and upright in the drawer and the labels are waterproof and the lids rust-proof.  I was able to fit 9 jars across each tier and to fit 36 jars in one space.   For a little more than $60 I was able to transform the look and functionality of my spice drawer.  Talk about “sparking joy”!!  What do you think?
