I’ve been looking for a small butcher block kitchen cart for my younger son’s apartment. After searching local consignment and thrift stores, I turned to the computer. I found this gem online at Ikea!
I researched several kitchen carts online at Target, Walmart and on Amazon, but I didn’t want to pay for shipping, plus the price was much better at Ikea. It was also a nice height, had open storage shelves under the butcher block top and was solid wood. And for $59.99, I thought it was a pretty good deal. Other people must have thought the same as I bought the last one! (It is called the BEKVAM kitchen cart)
It came unassembled in a large box. It looked a little daunting with all of the pieces when I first opened the package, but the directions were very good. There were no words really, just pictures, which I loved! I put it together in less than an hour. All of the holes were pre-marked making it easy to screw the pieces together.
I also bought a stainless steel hanging rack at Ikea that fits perfectly on the side along with some hooks so my son can hang utensils or towels on the side. The GRUNDTAL rail was $6.99 and the GRUNDTAL hooks were $3.99. I thought about painting the base but decided to leave it natural and he can paint it himself if he wants. (I bought one a few years ago for my older son and he did paint the base and switched out the knob. I was SO proud!) I added some baskets I had on hand for extra storage options. Plus, they hide clutter better. I’ll be sure to include some Howard’s Cutting Board Oil to condition the top. Not bad for about $70! This will be something he can use for years to come. Now he can start cooking away! I think he will LOVE it!
