Happy Wednesday, sweet friends! I did a quick little DIY project today at the lake house and I can’t wait to show you! Come check out how to add privacy film for your windows!
At our lake house we have a small bathroom in the basement. There is a window near the top of the shower that looks out on our neighbor’s driveway. And there is a lovely view of part of our HVAC unit.
Not exactly what one wants to see when you enter the bathroom or are in the shower!
So, to solve the privacy problem and to make the bathroom more attractive, I bought some window film by Artscape. The pattern I chose is called, “Silver Fern”. You can find it at your local big box stores such as Lowe’s and Home Depot for less than $20 for a roll of 24″x36″. Or of course you can buy it online.
It turned out to be pretty simple to install. Here’s what you’ll need…
*Empty spray bottle
*Liquid soap & warm water
*Squeegee (Included in the kit)
*Paper Towels
*Window Cleaner
*Measuring Tape
*Sharp Utility knife (or scissors)
*Straight Edge
*Window film of your choice
INSTRUCTIONS:
1-Clean your glass with window cleaner. Thoroughly remove any dirt or debris from the window using a razor blade if needed. (The film will adhere to clean glass or plexiglass, not frosted or textured glass.)
2-Measure window and trim the film using a straight edge. (I used scissors.)
3-Wet the glass using a few drops of liquid soap mixed with warm water in your spray bottle. **DO NOT ALLOW PAPER BACKING TO GET WET! Spray liquid liberally.
4-Remove backing from paper. Peel film from the backing paper starting at the corner.
5-Apply film to the wet window and move into place.
6-Squeegee. Spray the outside of the film with the soapy water mixture. Starting from the center, use a squeegee to press out air bubble. Place a towel at the base of the windowsill to catch excess water. Squeegee until dry.
And here’s how it looks! The picture quality is not the best I know. I took this late in the afternoon and the light was not the best, but you get the idea! Instant privacy!
And a quick before and after! Such a simply and inexpensive fix, but what a difference, right? There are SO many options when it comes to window film so the sky is the limit! This film would also be great for side light windows beside a front door or anywhere you need a bit of privacy!
Well, as usual I have a bunch of things in the queue that I’ll share soon. Meanwhile, thanks for stopping by and lets chat again soon! xoxo Dell
