Greetings and Happy President’s Day! Do you have the day off too? I’m so thankful for this gorgeous weather! I officially have spring fever. My husband sent some beautiful flowers to me for our anniversary and they are sitting on my desk in the kitchen. Naturally it required me to clean off my desk….
Our house in Pennsylvania has a large kitchen, which I love. There is a large oversized island, a place for a table & chairs and a sitting area near the windows. Most people with this floor plan actually use the sitting area and have their kitchen table in the center of the kitchen. We knew we wanted the table and chairs near the bay windows so we could see out. This left a nice place for a desk for me!
Our house has an office which my husband uses. So my “office” is in the kitchen. It’s actually the perfect location since I can keep an eye on everything especially when I’m cooking. Lacey loves it too and she likes to sit by my chair or some times IN my chair with me. The desk came from Grandin Road catalog years ago. It looked like one from Pottery Barn, but was about $200 less. Originally it had small black metal knobs but one of the knobs kept coming off and the screw was stripped. So rather than get a new screw, I decided to replace the knobs altogether.
The desk has five knobs so when I switched them out, I used four large glass knobs from my stash on the sides and used a vintage glass door knob for the drawer in the center. I had to drill the existing holes to make them larger to accommodate the new knobs. I love how they give the desk a vintage vibe and they are more substantial. Switching out existing hardware is one of the easiest ways to update a piece of furniture or give it an entirely new look.
I have a pretty gold phone on my desk. I found it at an antique store about a year ago and it actually works! There is a cordless phone behind my computer that I really use, but I can’t resist having the gold one on my desk so I can see it all of the time. And it has a fun sounding ring. 🙂 I also have two wing chairs at my desk. One for me and one for anyone else to sit and chat. I bought them at a consignment store years ago for $35 each. Recently I had them recovered in a brown tweed fabric since Lacey likes to sit in them too. (brown hides dirty paws much better than the previous white toile.)
I bought a new desk lamp this weekend for $30 at my favorite consignment store. It’s gold and matches the phone, which is perfect! My old lamp had crystals on it (which you know I LOVE) but it didn’t work well for task lighting. This one works MUCH better. And my flowers are right here for me to enjoy! The daffodils are just starting to open as are the purple lilies. Despite the beautiful warm weather, I have a sneaky suspicion that winter will rear its head again soon. (according to Phil, the ground hog.)
Our new kitchen appliances are in and we are nearly finished with the master bathroom remodel. I am glad we are almost done with our indoor projects and we can concentrate on the outside once spring has officially arrived. Lacey is demanding attention. Time to go outside and play! Hope you have a wonderful day and thank you so much for stopping by! xoxo Dell

Hi Staci, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately I don’t have a store at this point so I try to reference where I buy different products. Many things I find are vintage or thrift store finds, but I bet you can find something similar online or at your local antique or thrift stores. I’m not sure which items you are interested in particularly but if you send me a name and/or picture I can try to direct you. Thank you for following along and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! xo Dell
