TGIF! Is anyone else looking forward to the weekend? I know we are! And this weekend we are expecting some of our favorite guests. My parents! So, I’m preparing the guest room for their arrival!
Nothing makes me happier than for our boys to come home for a visit or a visit from our family and close friends. So when I found out my parents are coming up for a few days, it spurred me into action! They will only be here for a few days, but I always like for their stay to feel like a vacation. It’s a break from cooking and chores for them so my husband and I like to pamper them with delicious food, great drinks and lots of relaxation. I love this reversible sign on the guest room door. It may or may not have come from a hotel where we once stayed…..
Our guest room has it’s own bathroom which is nice for company. They feel like they have lots of privacy and don’t need to worry about sharing a bathroom with anyone else. I have to admit our guest bathroom needs a little updating. We’ve been working on the other bathrooms and this is the last one on the list. I plan on replacing the shower fixtures and the faucet and re-caulking and painting, but we just haven’t had time. But, that didn’t stop me from cleaning the bathroom really well and buying new fluffy white towels to make it feel fresh.
In the bathroom I also added a silver tray with some Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day soap and a silver dish with some cotton balls and Q-tips. Fresh hand towels and wash cloths are right on hand too. I love washing the towels and sheets in Linen Wash by Yves Delorme and drying them with a dryer sachet. It gives everything such a fresh and clean scent.
I used a basket I had leftover from the holidays and made up a gift basket for my parents. They get up REALLY early so they usually get some coffee and read before we get up. But I also wanted to give them a few magazines and some snacks in case they got hungry while they were still upstairs. In the basket I put a few water bottles, magazines, some crackers, nuts, milk chocolates & candy. (for my Dad’s sweet tooth) And in case they need some extra toiletries, I put some travel size soaps, shampoo, lotion and tooth paste for good measure.
Under the sink there are plenty of extra towels and washcloths and toilet paper. Although it’s May the nights are still cool. We have a ceiling fan (darn, I still wish it was a crystal chandelier) so guests can adjust it to their comfort level. I have a blanket and a throw handy, just in case. We turned the heat off last week and have been sleeping with the windows cracked so we still use a blanket. (Isn’t this weather bizarre?)
The experts say you should sleep in your guest room to see how comfortable it feels. I did a few months ago when I had a bad cold and was trying not to infect my husband. I must say that bed sleeps really well! The room has a new comforter that I bought at Marshall’s last year and it has hardly been used. It is from their “hotel collection” and it’s really pretty and soft. And it’s white and black so it goes with everything! I’ll include my sweet little WIFI sign so my Mother can access the internet from the guest room. We switched to Fios recently so I need to print the new network and password.
I put a candle in the bathroom by Village Candle called Pure Linen. It’s such a clean and soft fragrance. I’ll leave some matches nearby so they can light it and enjoy it. Later today when I’m out grocery shopping I’ll pick up some fresh flowers for the house and the guest room. A bit more cleaning and cooking and we’ll be all set for their arrival! We can’t wait!
I hope you have a safe and wonderful weekend! Thank you for stopping by and for sharing me with your family and friends! Take care! xoxo Dell
