Last week I decided to do a small makeover on our powder room. The wallpaper was dark and dated so while my husband was out of town, it was the perfect time to tackle this project! Want to see?
Thankfully the wallpaper came off pretty easily. I envisioned picking away at it but it came off in long strips. Since we added the crown molding after the wallpaper I had to use a razor knife to get the wallpaper out from underneath. Still, not a big deal. Below is the dark wallpaper:
And here is the wallpaper removed! Already much lighter!
I had over half a gallon of paint left from our living room painting project last year. I loved the color and so I used that in the powder room as well. The color is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (HC-172) It is a light gray/taupe and very soft. Because we always have resale in mind, this is a great neutral choice.
I had to putty and sand a ton of holes. The house is over 13 years old, and I’ve changed the artwork in there a lot. So, one day of prep work and one day of painting and it’s done!
We replaced the builder grade pedestal sink about a year ago. We bought the vanity and sink at Home Depot from their Home Decorator Collection. (It was on sale and free delivery.) It didn’t come with the faucet or knobs so I found these vintage ones on eBay. I love the look of the old gold/brass. Our handyman installed the sink and the faucet for us. It took a bit of imagination on his part, but he got it to fit and work. I love it!
I put the magazine rack back up and hung a new plaque over the window.
I took down the old shiny gold towel ring and hung this pretty gold antique curtain tie back instead. I found it for $3 at a barn sale.
The mirror was one I had before so it went back up. The pictures are from years back but I love flowers so I liked them in the bathroom. (I even hung one behind the door next to the magazine rack.) I still need to find a place to hang the toilet paper holder, but who wants to look at that? And I kept the dainty crystal and brass chandelier that was there before. So now the powder room is complete! It looks so much fresher and brighter. Thanks for stopping by!
