Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Last week I discovered the coolest app and wanted to share it with you! Come see “Picture This”, an app for your iPhone to help identify plants!
Of course, I am usually a day late and dollar short when it comes to technology, but just in case you haven’t heard of it, here goes! Our new house already has a beautiful yard, and has some of my favorite stand-by flowers such as peonies and hydrangeas. However, there are several flowers and shrubs in the yard that I’m not familiar with. An ad popped up on Facebook last week for Picture This. It’s an app where you take a picture of a flower or leaf and within seconds, it identifies is for you! Is that magic or what???
I you want to try it, simply go to the App Store on your iPhone and search Picture This. You can try it for free for 7 days. (Which is probably as long as you need to identify your plants.) After that, it’s $19.99 for a year or $1.99 per week. So, I downloaded the app under the “try it for free” button and started snapping away! For instance, we have several groups of these lovely flowers in our yard. They love full sun and have pretty purple flowers that seem to open in the morning and then fade during the heat of the day. I took a picture with the open app, then within seconds it proclaimed these “Mexican Petunias”! Now I know!
You can also try Iplant or other apps to find one that is right for you and your budget. (I like things for free!) And we have several groups of these gorgeous flowers. What are they? I snapped a picture:
Then after just a few seconds, this screen pops up. It’s Fall Phlox! It identifies the name and Genus and any other common names. If the first photo and information isn’t quite right, it gives you other options to further investigate.
There are probably many more apps similar to this, but this is the one I tried and I’m very impressed! I plan to start a file on our yard so I can remember the names and placement of the different plants and flowers. Especially the ones that are new to me!
Well, thank you so much for stopping by! I’ve been so busy with yucky chores such as getting new tires on our cars etc, that I’ve hardly had time to do anything fun, like paint! So, I hope to remedy that starting today! I hope you have a wonderful day and stay cool out there! Until tomorrow! xoxo Dell
