Happy Monday, my friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Today I want to share with you a fun makeover I did for one of my sisters about a week ago. It’s (another) petite chandelier makeover! Come see how it turned out!
As you know, I have a thing for crystal chandeliers. A BIG thing. So, when I find a crystal chandelier (large or small) for sale at a great price, I pounce on it. Recently I found this little jewel on Facebook Marketplace for $25. I couldn’t resist!
The petite chandelier has the sweetest little pink, teardrop crystals mixed with clear glass crystals. My original plan was to fix it up a bit and give it away as a baby gift for a little girl. Wouldn’t it look precious in a nursery?
Then came Plan B. My sister wanted a tiny chandelier for her new master bedroom closet. It needed to be small enough in order for the pull-down attic stairs to be accessible. I knew this little beauty would fit the bill! It just needed a little makeover. So, I removed all of the pink crystals and set them aside for future use. I switched them out for larger, clear glass teardrop crystals in my stash. The candle sleeves were plastic and one was missing. I had these black cardboard candle sleeve covers with gold wax drips on hand, so I cut three of them down to size. Already a huge improvement for our purposes! This is how it looked in my “shop” prior to the trip to my sister’s house.
My sister’s handy husband converted the hard-wire fixture into one with a plug and switch. Using two decorative hooks we swaged the chain from the ceiling and the chandelier over my sister’s new make-up table. Because the fixture is on a plug, she can turn the chandelier on alone for ambiance, or use it in conjunction with the can lights for plenty of lighting in the closet.
The chandelier adds the perfect amount of task lighting for putting on make-up, and a bit of glamour to the closet. A picture of Marilyn Monroe seals the deal. A combination of anything black and white is an instant classic in my book. I love it!
So this little beauty went from a child’s fixture to a grown-up version with a few minor changes. Honestly, I did think about painting the chandelier black or gold, which would have looked great too, but in the essence of time, I decided to leave it white, with black accents. We swapped out the white chain for a black one for added pop.
I think this is one of my favorite aspects of chandeliers. You can literally use them anywhere, even closets and bathrooms! I love the sparkle of the crystals and the way the light bounces off of the walls and ceiling. And when you put a crystal chandelier on a dimmer switch, it’s even better! So, if you come across a good deal on a chandelier, keep in mind there are so many ways to change it up a bit and make it suit your needs and taste. A little bit of paint, and a few crystals is sometimes all it takes! In case you missed it, you can see another chandelier makeover I did for my sister’s master bedroom here: Large Chandelier in Master Bedroom!
Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you have a great weekend! P.S. Be sure to stop in this week for a peek at the new crystal chandelier in our guest room! I think you’ll like it! xoxo Dell
