TGIF! And is anyone else shocked that today is the end of March already? This year is flying by! Tomorrow we are helping our younger son move into a new apartment. We are giving him a few things from our house along with a coffee table I rescued a few weeks ago. I started painting it then, so is it finished? No.
Since tomorrow is moving day, there is no time to waste. I am notorious for waiting until the last minute to do things. At this rate I pray the paint will be dry by morning! I am using white chalk paint to paint over the original dark stain on the coffee table. It was my understanding that chalk paint was sort of a miracle paint in that you don’t need to prime before you paint. That may be, but it seems like my last few chalk paint projects have taken MULTIPLE coats. This is how the coffee table looked when I found it:
Then after the first coat of paint:
Since it is a very wet and rainy day today, my painting project moved from the garage to the kitchen. This is my third coat of paint and I still see some stain bleeding through. Big sigh. I am still of the mind set it will be darling once I finish. Lacey is happy to oversee my projects.
And STILL painting the coffee table. I cleaned the glass and put in on the right side just to see how it looked. Not sure if the picture shows that. Maybe one more coat of paint and I’ll be done. Not a moment too soon. 😉
Meanwhile, I scored 3 adorable and sturdy bar stools for his apartment from a sweet neighbor. I exhausted Craigslist and my usual consignment and thrift stores to no avail. He needed anywhere from 2 to 4 counter height bar stools (24″ from floor to seat), preferably with backs. Come to find out, counter height is less common than bar height. At least where I was looking. Also, his existing table is counter height with a dark cherry stain on top with a black base and me being me, I wanted the table and chairs to match. I sent out an urgent Facebook request to my neighbors looking to buy a few bar stools they were willing to sell. Low and behold, one of my neighbors had the perfect stools!
The stools are black wrought iron with a scrolly back and feet. The white cushions tie in the back. I’ll take them off and give them a quick wash just to refresh them. They will be absolutely perfect for his apartment! What with a few dogs and a few kitty cats, these stools should be virtually pet proof! And she gave me a great price on them too! (Thank you! Blowing kisses.)
While out shopping for the stools I found this sweet little pig. He was half off at the thrift store and was begging to come home with me. His new home will be in NYC. I think my son will love him.
Tomorrow we rent the uHaul and load it full of furniture that we are taking, including the new bar stools and the rescued coffee table. Like so many people I know, we are purging our houses and trying to downsize. This move comes at an ideal time! We hope by tomorrow night he will be settled in his new digs and we will be passed out after what promises to be a very busy day! And I’m keeping my fingers crossed for better weather than today. Wish us luck! Thank you for stopping by. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! xoxo Dell
