Happy Tuesday, friends! Today’s post is a quickie but I hope you’ll find it helpful! It’s all about picking paint colors with the help of paint sample boards! The brand I used is called “Small Wall”. Come check it out!If you follow along on Instagram and/or Facebook, you know we are about to repaint our kitchen, dining area, hallway and stairwell. Currently they are ALL painted the same color of dark tan. Even the ceilings. I’ve wanted to change it all to a lighter color ever since we moved in but couldn’t justify the cost. Finally I convinced my husband to bite the bullet, so we hired a painter to come paint just the ceilings and stairwell, since I can’t reach those safely. I”ll do the rest. (Sigh. Such a big chore!)
Because painting these spaces is going to be a HUGE job, I only want to do it once. So, I want to be sure I’m choosing the perfect color. Everything in this house is shades of beige or off whites, making it difficult to pick a color that will flow throughout the house. We all know how many colors of white, and off white there are, and how some can take on a yellow or pinkish tone, neither which I want. So, I picked up some paint samples and paint sample boards the other day from my local paint store.
This kit includes 2- 12″x12″ adhesive back paint sample boards. Each kit was $6.29. Once I got them home I felt a little silly for paying so much for 4 pieces of white poster board with a sticky on the back. Anyhoo…..
I brought them home and painted two of the boards and taped them to the wall in the kitchen and dining areas to see how I liked the colors.
In the past I’ve used SW Accessible Beige with great success but it seems a little too dark for this area. So, I painted the other sample in Tapestry Beige, (Benjamin Moore) which I’ve used in several other rooms in this house and I think I’ve found a winner! It’s much, much lighter than what is currently in the space, which I like. What do you think?
I have two other colors I’d like to try before I make my final decision and let the painter know. I’d better choose quickly because he’s coming on Monday! Yikes! What do you think of this color? Tapestry Beige?
Well, we have our sweet son, DIL and baby grandson coming for dinner tonight, so I’d better get busy! But I’d like to suggest something if you are trying to pick paint colors. Simply go to a craft store and pick up a large sheet of white poster board for a dollar, and cut it into large squares. Paint each square with a paint color you are considering. and tape them to your walls using painters tape. (Unless you want to spend $6.29 for each kit like I did.) Also, you can buy a small paint sample of any color you choose so you don’t need to buy too much of one color in order to try it in your home. Your paint store or big box store will mix it up for you on the spot. Once you tape the samples to the wall, see how you like it in different light, different times of the day. Move them around too to see how they look in different spots. Then you can make a good decision!
Have a great day my friends! I’ll keep you posted on the color choice! xoxo Dell
