The master bedroom at the lake is 11×13 feet. Not a lot of square footage, but who wants to hang out in the bedroom when you can hang out and look at this view?
When we bought the house four years ago, the very first thing we did after closing was rip out the 40-something year old carpet in the master bedroom. We hoped to find beautiful hardwood floors underneath but it was not to be. It was decking , not hardwood. Still it took a lot of effort to pull out the carpet and a million staples out of the floor. We had wide plank hardwood floors installed throughout the house.
Our ever present helper, Lacey. She was just one year old when we bought the lake house. She loves it down there!
Since the room is so small, it was pretty simple to decorate! We knew we wanted a king size bed. (we have one at home in PA so it was a must have) I found one on clearance for $50 at a going out of business sale at a consignment store. I freshened it up with a coat of antique white paint. It’s nice and sturdy and a great deal. (It looks like one from Pottery Barn)
The king size bed didn’t leave room for much else. At first we had two small mismatched night stands. Those worked for a while, but since storage space is so crucial at the lake, I wanted to find some small dressers that would double as nightstands. I finally I found the perfect pair. They each have 3 nice size drawers and were the perfect height and width. And only a few inches to spare on each side!
There was a place for a ceiling light on my side and I knew it had to be a chandelier. (I’d love to know what hung there originally!) Every once in a while I bang my head on it but it’s totally worth it.
We put a small bench at the end of the bed for a place to unpack suitcases and put on shoes, etc.
We did a mini closet makeover too. We took off the original bifold doors and replaced them with solid wood doors. I found some sweet crystal door knobs on eBay. I hung some hooks on the inside of each door for extra hanging space. My husband added an second bar for hanging clothes and added a few shelves. (The closet was messy so I didn’t take inside pictures.) It basically doubled the storage space inside the closet. This was the original closet on the left.
We painted the room and added crown molding and larger window and baseboard molding. I got the pretty wood shades at Lowe’s. We love it! Sweet Dreams!
