Happy Monday, Friends! I’ve never done a book review before but wherever I read an entire book in two sittings it means I am really interested! Have you read Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng?
Honestly, with everything we have going on lately, I haven’t found much time to read. But, my book club voted on this particular book and since this will be my last book club with this lovely group, I felt like I should actually read it and attend! We agreed early on that we would have a serious book club along with in depth discussions, etc. Well, the road is paved with good intentions. (for me) I usually bought the book but half the time I didn’t read it. Or if I did read the book, I couldn’t make the meeting. And sometimes, even if I didn’t read the book I would go anyway. I suppose I’m not good book club material. But I still enjoy participating.
Little Fires Everywhere sparked my interest so I ordered the book on Amazon and it sat on my desk for two weeks. Book Club is in a few days so yesterday I started the book. It was a nasty, cold, rainy day anyway so it was perfect! I read last night until I could hardly keep my eyes open and then this afternoon I finished it! Rather than give you my take on it, I’ll share a review on Amazon. By the way, the book got 4 ½ stars!
Amazon.com Review:
An Amazon Best Book of 2017: “With her first two novels, Celeste Ng has established herself as a writer of rare sensitivity and talent. Her first book Everything I Never Told You was picked by the Amazon Editors as the best book of 2014 and went on to be a best seller. Now, Little Fires Everywhere is sure to please her fans and attract more. The Richardson family lives in the planned community of Shaker Heights, Ohio-a place of wealth, comfort and stability- and they are a clan that embodies those traits. But when Mia, a single mother and her fifteen year old daughter, Pearl, rent a house in the area, their very different lives will merge with those of the Richardson family and begin to contort the careful laid lattice that supports their views. Once again, the plotting and pacing are nearly perfect, the characters believable and real. Ng is a master of family and societal dynamics, shifting perspectives, and the secrets we try to protect-and readers who loved her debut will recognize the author in this second novel, even as she continues to stretch herself as a writer. We are now eagerly awaiting her next novel.” ~Chris Schluep, Amazon Book Review.
After reading Celeste Ng’s second novel, I am curious to read her first. It will probably need to wait until we get moved and I’m on vacation somewhere sipping a cocktail, but that’s ok. It’s something to look forward to!
Don’t you love it when you find a book that instantly grabs your attention and you don’t want to put it down? This is a book I’d like to see made into a movie. It would be fun to see how the characters would look after picturing them in my mind. Do you ever do that? Read a book and decide what the characters look like only to be disappointed when you see it on the big screen? But sometimes, they get it exactly right!
Well, now the rain has stopped and I need to do something productive! Like do some packing and start dinner. If you are looking for a good book with interesting characters, storyline and a quick read, you should check out this book!
Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a lovely day. xoxo Dell
***Note: I would only recommend this book for adults as it contains adult issues and material.
