Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend! My husband and I have been doing a bit of rearranging in the basement and more specifically trying to finish the den area in time for nice weather and entertaining. We’ve been searching high and low for a small sofa for our basement “lounge” and finally found one!
After months of pondering what to do with our basement den area, my husband decided he wanted to make it into a lounge area. A place where family and friends could relax, play pool and watch television. So, a few months ago, we purchased a pool table, and a pub table with two stools from Facebook Marketplace. That was a nice start! In addition, we wanted comfortable seating for entertaining and tv watching. The room is not really that large and the pool table takes up sizable real estate. We already had a nice leather recliner that my husband loved and wanted to keep, so we wanted a small scale sofa that would match the chair. The search was on!
After months of searching and several trips to the Hickory Furniture Mart and other furniture outlets, we finally discovered the perfect sofa! We found it at the Bernhardt Furniture Outlet in Hickory, NC.
It’s actually more of a love seat with two cushions. It measures 76″ wide by 32″ high. I’ve always admired the Chesterfield style sofa with tufted buttons on the back and sides. The front and arms of the sofa feature a nail head trim, which I also love! Isn’t it a beauty?
Wisely, we took the cushion from the recliner with us in order to best match the leather. And it was nearly a perfect match! And the sofa was on sale~Sold!
To save around $150, my husband and I went to pick up the sofa rather than pay for delivery. Having a pick up truck is always handy! Bernhardt wrapped it up in plastic and loaded it on the truck for us. It was a perfect fit and we could even close the tailgate.
We waited until that evening when our son and daughter-in-law came to stay for a few days so we had some extra muscle. Here’s our older son, Chase, who was on the case. (LOL if you watch the kid’s cartoon, Paw Patrol.)
My husband and son had to take the feet off of the sofa in order to get it into the basement. It was tricky maneuvering the sofa through the house and down a curved stairwell, but they did it! Here’s how the sofa looks in place. We’ve had the vintage Rat Pack poster for ages, along with the end tables and lamps. The end tables are screaming, “make us over!” but that’s a project for another day. For now, they fit the space nicely and do their job.
You can see the recliner in the foreground and the pub table and stools in the back, along the same wall. A perfect fit, don’t you think? You can see the corner of the pool table on the right. We keep it covered to keep the dust off.
Now that all of the furniture is in place, I’d like to paint the walls a dark, moody color befitting a lounge atmosphere. I’m still trying to convince my husband this is a good idea. And I would do all of the painting. Bonus!
And currently the pool table is off center in the room because we didn’t know how much room the furniture would require. With the furniture placement complete, we can now move the pool table over so it’s centered under the fan and we will replace it with a pool table light. (I predict this will be a battle of wills between the master of the man cave and the mistress of the house. Can we compromise? We shall see.)
At least now with the big furniture pieces in place we can slowly work on the rest of the room, by adding more art work and some vintage bar-themed signs, etc. which we have in the treasure room. Perhaps something we can do on this rainy day?
Thank you for stopping by. And let me know if you are A- Team Moody Paint or B-Team Neutral Paint? And if you are either, what color?
It’s raining like crazy here today, and that’s fine by me. I have lots to do. Stay safe and dry, my friends, and have a lovely day! Much love, Dell
