I love the saying “Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.” Sometimes that is the case, but recently shopping with my husband was a huge score!
Last week we were at the lake house. It’s always so much fun to be down South! We were able to see lots of family and good friends and squeeze in a bit of shopping. One of our favorite spots is a consignment store in Denver, NC. They have a fun mix of clothing, furniture, and several booths with vendors. There are a few antiques, but mostly consignment furniture.
Over the years we’ve purchased several pieces at this shop. We found my husband’s desk for the lake house there for a great price. He loves a desk with a large work area, lots of drawers and a pull out writing surface. We didn’t want to spend a fortune on a desk for the lake and found the perfect one here! It is ideal for his little office space that faces the lake.
Naturally no desk would be complete at the lake without a fisherman lamp! (He’s one of my favorites! You can see more of his fisherman lamp friends here.) Doesn’t he have the sweetest face?
Since we were in the area we decided to stop in and check out the store since we had not been in a while. Immediately my husband spotted three industrial stools that had just come in. They didn’t even have a price on them yet! We asked about them and the clerk said she would call the vendor for a price. Meanwhile we shopped!
The clerk came back and said they were $40 each. We really wanted four stools but we liked them so we offered $100 for all three and she happily accepted! The stools are industrial style with a metal base and a rough round wooden top. The stool seats are fixed on a large screw base so the height can be easily adjusted. They are nice and heavy and of good quality. We brought them home and put them in the basement behind the sofa for now. When we finish our outdoor covered deck area we will put them outside.
This type of stool is so popular these days! They are a fun mix of industrial and farmhouse style. These same style stools are available at Pottery Barn for $399 each. The base is a bit different and come in three different finishes; cracked oak, naturally aged and ebonized oak. Pottery Barn usually runs a special so currently these are 20% off.
Target also sells a more affordable version that looks equally sharp for $74.99.
My point is shopping consignment and second hand is the ultimate in thrifty shopping and up cycling at its finest! I love to find great pieces at great prices. This way I can afford to spend money on higher end unique items yet save on accessories and smaller pieces. I like our home to have that collected over time look. (which it really is!) It is my favorite way to decorate! A little bit of everything. Thanks for stopping by!
