Happy Monday, friends! I have been crazy busy around here as I’m sure you have! Between working at the lake house and travel, I’ve hardly had time to post! But, I wanted to share with you my favorite new gadget~an indoor wireless remote system. I think you’ll agree it’s a must-have in certain situations!
You know how much I adore crystal chandeliers, so I’ve been dying to hang a little cutie in front of the fireplace at our lake house for ages. Not only will the extra lighting come in handy, but who doesn’t love the look of a sparkly chandelier? We have two large wing chairs that sit in front of the fireplace at all times. During the summer months, the chairs face towards the lake. In the winter, we turn the chairs to face the fireplace and gas logs. But there is no lighting in this area for reading. However, there is outlet in the ceiling over the mantle. Naturally, I figured it would be easy to add a plug-in chandelier by simply plugging in the fixture and swaging it in front of the mirror and between the chairs.
Easier said than done! After much ado, which included a trip to Lowe’s and Ace Hardware, we found the right size hooks and screws to mount the hooks from the ceiling. Once we got the chandelier hung and were happy with the height, I plugged it in. Only then I learned the ceiling outlet does NOT work off of the switch in the hallway. In order to turn the fixture off and on, one would need to get a ladder and unplug it manually. Not a good plan at all. So, my husband researched alternatives. (It does look pretty though, right?)
Enter the indoor wireless remote system! It can be found at Hobby Lobby for a set of 3 outlets with 1 remote for about $24.99. However, today it was on sale for 25% off! (along with other Christmas items!)
Once purchased, I plugged in one of the wireless outlets into the existing receptacle and plugged in the chandelier. I tucked the rest of the chain and wire behind the mirror.
Now the chandelier can be turned off and on with the touch of a remote control. I think the chandelier could be raised a few links, but I”ll play with that later. The main thing is~it’s HUNG! Typically my husband is not a fan of doing little tasks like this for me or with me, but he indulges me from time to time.
I love it when an idea comes to fruition! This chandelier has been in my stash for the longest time and now I can enjoy it everytime we are at the lake! And it will provide great lighting by the fire this winter.
I have a few new projects at our golf house that I’m working on and I can’t wait to share them with you! Have a great evening my sweet friends~and thank you as always for stopping by! oxox Dell
