Happy Thursday, Friends! I have been crazy busy the past few weeks painting everything within arms reach! I’ll share it all soon, but today I wanted to show you how to use decorative plaques in home decor! Come see!
If you follow along my blog and on Instagram and Facebook, you’ve seen this adorable little reading nook off of our kitchen. Now that our little grandson is old enough to enjoy books, this has officially become “Ford’s Reading Nook”.
So, when I decided to paint the kitchen and dining room, of course the nook needed a little update too! So, I removed the cushion and ALL of the pillows. See the little box below the cushion? It seemed a little bare to me so I decided while I was painting, I’d add a little bling!
I had this pretty plaque in my stash. It has two keyholes on the back so it would fit flush to the back board. After finding the center and marking it, I made sure it was level. (or levelish) Using gorilla glue I ran a nice bead along all of the edges and middle of the plaque and popped in onto the screws. It dried quickly!
There were still small nail holes and cracks so I caulked the cracks and puttied the holes. Once it was dry I sanded it.
Here is the midway progress. You can see I had not yet painted any of the nook, only the trim.
And after several coats of paint, here’s how it looks! The box is a little recessed anyway, so the plaque doesn’t stick out very far. I have a feeling Ford will use it as a step! Good thing it’s screwed and glued!
The reading nook has just one coat of paint, and I’m waiting for it to dry before hitting it with another light coat. But, I love how this little plaque adds such a pretty element to the space! I can hardly wait to put the cushion and pillows back and see how it looks! Doesn’t fresh paint make everything better? Well, and a little bling.
And a quick before and after. Notice the trim surrounding the nook is a much lighter color? That was my goal! Later I’ll share details of paint colors, etc. but for now Miss Lacey has an appointment at her groomer and I need more paint!
Have a great day my friends! Please say a little prayer for me as I pick out the paint for the walls! Fingers crossed I like it! Until we meet again, may the Good Lord take a liking to you. (As my Dad and Roy Rogers say). xoxo Dell
P.S. The cutest baby in the County reading in his nook. I hope he likes the new changes. It may call for a few new books~be still my heart!
