Happy Thursday, sweet friends! I hope you are having a great week! Today I want to share with you a few plans for our basement. Come see how to convert an office into a bedroom!
If you follow along regularly (and if you do, THANK YOU!!!) then you know we just had new vinyl flooring installed throughout our basement. We’ve been waiting for this to happen ever since we moved in as the original carpet was in pretty bad shape. We were always at a loss as to how we wanted to use the space, but still wanting it to be a comfortable place for our children when they come to visit.
In the basement, there are three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a kitchenette and a great room. (Then there is my treasure room, but that’s another story.) Two of the bedrooms have connecting bathrooms, but one does not. The largest bedroom (pictured below) and bathroom serve as our main guest suite for when we have company or our son and daughter-in-law visit. To see more of the transformation of this space see here: Accessorizing the Guest Bedroom!
This is the second bedroom where our younger son stays when he visits. It’s also used by others when we have multiple guests. The room is nice and large, but has no adjoining bathroom. To see what this room looked like in the beginning click here: How to remove fabric from a Wall!
The third bedroom has an adjoining bathroom, 3 windows and it also faces the golf course. When we moved in we figured my husband would enjoy all of these features more than the occasional guest, so we made this room his office. It all worked out fine for a bit, but my husband is retired and used the office less and less. These pictures are not great because I snapped it the evening before we disassembled everything for the flooring guys. But, you get the drift. Big desk, big chairs, big furniture and a big ceiling fan.
We decided when we redid the flooring, we would finally tackle rearranging the rooms in the basement to make them more conducive to our current lifestyle and make our children feel more at home when they visit. So, we decided to make the office into a bedroom! After all, the furniture was all over the place anyway from the flooring installation!
We plan to shuffle around all of our existing furniture to make the office a bedroom, and the former bedroom an office, workout room. So, we took the bed from the former guest room…
And moved it to the former office. It fits nicely between the windows and really is the only place in the room for a queen size bed.
And then I put on the old (but clean) bedding and wallah! Instant new guest room! Or, the Nicky Room as we like to call it.
Still to come is new lighting, new paint and some window coverings. All for a bargain price! FYI: I have the chandelier in my stash, paint: leftover from the other guest room, and simple pull down shades which are fairly inexpensive from Lowe’s. And in case you are curious, THIS is the chandelier waiting in the wings. It’s a vintage French beauty that I couldn’t resist. Another example of buy what you love, if you can, when you find it. You’ll find a place for it.
What do you think? To me, it seems like this was always meant to be, it just took two years to figure it out! Sometimes you just need to live in a house and listen to what it has to say. I think she just whispered in my ear.
I can’t believe how excited I am about our basement now! For the longest time we couldn’t decide what to do, and I think it had to do with the old carpet. The new flooring freshened up the space in a way I didn’t imagine and I love it! Next week I hope to jump in with both feet and a paint brush! I’ll be sure to share with you my progress. Meanwhile, I hope you have a wonderful evening my friends! Let’s chat soon? oxoxo Dell
