TGIF, Friends! Today’s post is a quickie. I wanted to share one corner of our new house that is actually finished! Yesterday I hung my sparkly Hollywood Regency crystal wall sconce. Want to see where it landed?
I bought this Hollywood Regency crystal wall sconce a few months ago. I found it on eBay and instantly fell in love! It has a few of the characteristics that always makes me swoon. Tons of vintage glass crystals and gold leaf. Isn’t it dreamy?
The sconce and the crystals were very dusty and dirty so I took it outside and hosed it down gently with water and dried it off. Then I sprayed each crystal with Sparkle Plenty ( Sparkle Plenty for purchase ) allowed it to sit for a few minutes then wiped each crystal dry with clean paper towels. Then the entire piece indeed sparkled plenty! And she is ready for her debut!
This beauty holds 6 candles but I’m not sure if I will even use candles. A few of the candle cups are a little wonky so the candles probably wouldn’t stand straight anyway. My original plan was to use it in our bathroom or powder room, but then I found the perfect spot!
Our new house has tons of French Country charm. The previous owners did a fabulous job with their choices of furnishings and accessories. During the sales contract phase, the seller’s offered to sell us a few things from the house which they no longer needed or wished to transport to their new location. One of these items was this mirror. It hangs on a tall wall in between the kitchen and great room. The frame is gigantic and the mirror is beveled. You can see by the “Lacey” scale how large the piece truly is. She loves to nap in front of it. Probably so she can check her look in the mirror when she awakes.
The mirror takes up this entire wall and is so beautiful, we would have been crazy not to purchase it. Plus they gave us an amazing deal. More gold leaf? Yes, please.
There is a small angled wall to the right of the mirror and it screamed for something equally as showy. So, my vintage and newly cleaned sconce fit the bill. And the fact the sconce is asymmetrical no longer bothers me. Because the sconce itself is quite heavy, I used a wall anchor and a screw to ensure safe installation. I like to use the Toggler brand called SnapSkru. It has plastic self-drilling wall anchors and appropriate size screws ( SnapSkru for purchase ). They are so simple to use I can install them by myself in seconds. Trust me, you don’t want something like this to fall.
I love it when I find the perfect spot for one of my treasures. I also love how the mirror is angled and reflects the great room and the terrace beyond. Mixing old and new is my favorite decorating trick.
We are so happy the sellers offered to sell us this mirror! We paid for the mirror and a few other items the day of settlement which is customary. TIP: Make sure if you wish to purchase or sell personal items you get everything in writing and specify when and how the payment is to be made to avoid any conflicts or misunderstandings. Everything went off without a hitch with our sellers, but just a word to the wise.
Our electrician is coming next week so were are preparing the light fixtures (i.e. crystal chandeliers) for installation. Once the chandeliers are installed the house will feel like ours! Meanwhile, Lacey has settled in nicely. See? So nonchalant.
Little by little we are getting settled. We still have tons of boxes to unpack and need to find a place to put everything. My husband calls it putting a 10 pound bag of sugar into a 5 pound box. What we can’t use we are giving away or donating. It feels good to purge! Next week I’ll hopefully share with you our newly installed chandeliers and our new favorite recipe! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a lovely weekend! <3 Dell
