Happy Wednesday! Sometimes I make myself so happy. Today is one of those days! Every time we move to a different state, usually with my husband’s job, I treat myself to a little gift. I call it my happy moving gift to me. I bet you can guess what it is?
So, today while running errands and buying a gift (for someone else) I spied a beautiful crystal chandelier. And it’s almost identical to my favorite white one that formerly hung in our kitchen. (pictured below).
Last week we had this chandelier taken down and a replacement fixture installed. The white one and its crystals are safely packed for our move. My grand plan is to hang matching crystal chandeliers over the island or dining table in our next house. I have one that is very similar to this one in my stash. And I was going to use it to go with the white one. But here lies the problem. Can you see beneath the light socket there is no bobeche? But other than this, it matches my white one to a T.
I could add something like these crystal bobeches (shown below) to each arm and it would match pretty closely. But my OCD is bothered that they wouldn’t exactly match. And I feel like the chandelier duo will be such a statement piece in our kitchen that they need to match perfectly. Plus, they will be something we see all of the time, each and every day. Don’t you agree they should match identically?
Then today I found this one!!!! It matches almost perfectly down to the pineapple detail in the middle. Lacey was happy about my find until she discovered the lamp arms (prism holders) in the center of the fixture are different from the other two chandeliers. They still hold two crystals each but in a different configuration that I don’t like as well. So, I have a great idea!
I’ll take the 8 lamp arms from the new chandelier and switch them with the ones from the chandelier with no built-in bobeches. (I think my daughter-in-law has her eye on this one anyway!)
THEN the new chandelier and the white one will be identical! An absolutely perfect pair! I plan to paint the new one Heirloom White like the original. I think I have enough of the U-Drop crystals for both soon to be white fixtures. Can you believe each chandelier requires 80 crystals, plus the one on the bottom? I’ll just need to find another smooth crystal ball for the end of the new one. (I’ll save these pretty tear drop crystals for another project).
This is the look I’m going for except both of my chandeliers will be white. I think this will make my life complete. (Photo credit: French Country Cottage)
Can you picture it? Lacey and I can! When the weather gets a little better, I’ll make the needed changes and switch the S-shaped arms. Luckily, they attach with a simple flat head screw. Then Lacey and I will paint it Heirloom White since I have a new can of spray paint and I can’t take it with me. This way, both will be ready to hang on the other end! Double yay!
I think this will be the ultimate Happy Moving Gift to Me. As a bonus, I think my husband will enjoy it too because it didn’t cost nearly as much as the last one! Hi, Liana! I would love to try some of your crystals! Actually, I”m thinking of re-working a chandelier I have already. It’s all glass with clear crystals and I was thinking of replacing all of the clear crystals with light blue ones for my grandson’s nursery. What do you think? I would blog about it of course! Best regards, Dell
