TGIF, Friends! Is it finally Spring? Along with Spring comes the inevitable winding down of schools and colleges. It reminds me of several years back when our boys were in college. As the end of each semester loomed I usually sent them and their roommates a finals week goodie package.
Our sons both went to Penn State University. Each semester, probably along with a bill, came a letter from the school. They offered a service that would send goodie packages to your son or daughter during finals week. They sent this card (below) for parents to sign and return. Then, they would put together a package of assorted foods and snacks you knew your child would like. I thought it was terrific idea although I found their packages to be very expensive. So, I thought, why don’t I make my own?
I decided to make my own goodie packages for our sons and their roommates. In the Fall, since finals were right before Christmas, I would go to the dollar store and pick up a Penn State Christmas stocking for each of the boys. I filled them with silly Christmas socks, favorite candy, gum, cookies, beef sticks, games etc. One year I found Penn State Santa hats for all of my younger son’s roomies. I think the roommates looked forward to the goodie packages as much, if not more than my sons!
I think this is a fun way to let your son or daughter (and their friends) know you are thinking about them during exam time. Finals can be very stressful and this is a thoughtful way to let the kiddos know you love them, you are praying for them and rooting for them to finish out the semester on a strong note.
If you want a healthier idea, you could always send a Harry and David fruit basket to their dorm or apartment. Or, another idea, maybe send them a pizza the night before their hardest final? I’m sure they will appreciate the extra thought and brain food! I must admit I am glad our boys are out of college and onto successful careers but I hope they remember their college days fondly. (along with their goodie packages for finals week!)
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! As always, I sincerely thank you for supporting my little blog! xoxo Dell
