Greetings and happy Monday! I looked back at my Facebook page from 3 years ago and we had about a foot of snow. Flash forward to today, and it’s windy and rainy and not a flake of snow. I’m thankful for the mild weather because I have lots of running around to do! I’m already thinking of this fall and our first wedding! A trip to the dollar store is in order!
My older son is getting married this fall. I’m glad we have so much time to make plans but I’m sure November will be here before we know it! I feel like anything we can do ahead of time will be time well spent. The wedding will be medium sized I imagine. Most of my side of the family has teenagers but we do have 2 little girls and a baby boy. I saw a great idea on Pinterest on how to entertain young guests and thought I would mimic it for my son’s wedding!
My great nieces are ages 5 and 7. And while they are adorable and well behaved, I thought it would be nice to provide something fun for them to do during the rehearsal dinner and reception. One clever pinner provided small clip boards with printed pictures to color for young wedding guests. As you know Pinterest has anything you can possibly imagine for every occasion. So, I searched free wedding printables and several options came up. Since I am not great with computers, I couldn’t print the pages in their entirety. I wanted 4×6 or 5×7 images and most of them were 8×10 or had two images on one page and part of it got cut off. So, if you can figure it out, you can do it for free. (or use a full size clip board)
I decided the dollar store was my best option.
I found some Disney princess and Frozen stickers, coloring books and an assortment of activity books that are pocket size and will fit on a small clipboard. The dollar store also had packs of crayons and colored pencils for $1. There was even a “grab and go” pack of princess activities. I couldn’t decide which ones to get so I bought an assortment. This will surely keep the girls busy during the wedding and they can take the rest to entertain them on the ride home.
I couldn’t find the clip boards at the dollar store but I did find these at Staples for $2 each.
They had the plain cardboard for one cent less, but I thought these were prettier for the girls. Staples also had clear and colored clip boards but if you wanted to do a unisex clipboard you could choose the brown cardboard ones and they would work just as well. My inspiration on Pinterest had the crayons tied with a pretty string and attached to the clipboard but I think a ziplock bag would keep them together better. These are cute, right?
Each of the clipboards and activities were around $10 each but it could be done for much less. You could photo copy pages from a coloring book or print your own from the computer. I saw plenty of free Disney and princess pages if you are willing to download the images. Then I attached the activity books, stickers and crayons to the clipboards. Next, I put each clipboard in a ziplock bag with their names on them. This way the crayons and stickers will stay together. (I love buying little girl things, in case you couldn’t tell.) Then I tied each bag with a leopard print ribbon.
I think the girls will LOVE these! One more thing to check off of my list! Hope you have a happy day! Thanks so much for stopping by! xoxo Dell
