Happy Thursday, friends! This week the painters started painting the exterior of our lake house and we are SO excited! Come see the colors we chose and the progress!
If you’ve been following along, you know we recently added a large covered deck addition to our lake house. We love it, but we are anxious to get it painted so it will match the rest of the house. You can see the new deck on the right side of the house. It’s literally doubled our living space! This is how the addition looks from the lake.
Several years ago we had the entire exterior of the lake house painted grey with white trim. We love the color combination, so we will keep it. The new addition has lots of vertical spaces, which will be painted white, to match the trim. Our painter recommended a white oil-base stain instead of a white latex paint. This makes sense because a stain typically permeates wood better than paint. The painter insists the stain will last longer and wear better than paint. We certainly hope so!
The underside of the covered roof has beautifully angled details. Instead of covering this up with bead board or panels, we decided to leave it as is, and simply paint it.
You can see where the painters have started painting the ceiling. They are using a power sprayer to apply the stain on the hard to reach areas and rolling the others. I think it’s going to look great! The stain needs several coats to mimic the look of paint, but so far, so good.
The painters are hoping to finish the deck today before the thunderstorms move it for the rest of the week. They will return in a few weeks and do the rest of the exterior. I’ll be sure to share the “after” pictures. We are certainly looking forward to being able to use our deck again after a week of plastic and tarps!
I hope you have a wonderful day and stay well and safe my friends! Until next time! xoxo Dell
