By now you know how much I love crystals chandeliers! There is something about the sparkle and shine of vintage glass crystals that makes my heart sing. So while I really try to reign in my purchases of bling, sometimes I can’t help it! Especially with a wedding looming and crystals chandeliers are needed!
My son, who is my flesh and blood, also appreciates a great chandelier. He and his fiancé are planning a beautiful and romantic wedding this fall. They were looking for a unique, vintage vibe so they have chosen a lovely Southern venue. And they are free to decorate it as they wish! So we are on the lookout for a few cool crystal chandeliers. We will put them on plugs and use them as wedding decorations! (It’s a shame they aren’t waterproof though.)
My favorite hobby is collecting chandeliers. You never know when you’ll need one! Plus, when I find a great deal on a vintage chandelier, I jump on it. Brass and crystal chandeliers have really gotten much more expensive over the last 15 years or so as they have become MUCH more popular. Sigh. Here is one of my favorites:
Last year I found this beauty (below) on our community garage sale on Facebook. It is very large, heavy and ornate. It looks very old, too. Score! I sort of forgot about this one until the other day but now I’m thinking it will be perfect for the theme of the shower and wedding! I just need to have it put on a plug. (Please excuse my work area. It gets a LOT of use!)
The fixture has lovely and intricate details. It has 16 arms and 8 holes in each bobeche. That makes a grand total of 128 crystals! YIKES! I know for a fact I don’t have that many in my stash. Hmmmm….
When I bought this chandelier it was missing the majority of its crystals. (Perhaps a reason for the great price.) Plus, the crystals that were included are yellow and purple. Not exactly my cup of tea. They are even an odd shape. Maybe I can sell these on eBay and buy some large clear ones? Who knows, maybe odd shaped yellow crystals are all the rage and I’ll get a pretty penny for them? Then I could afford the NEW crystals!
While I am having this fixture rewired, I’ll check eBay and other sources to come up with my magic 128 number of crystals. I think it will be stunning! I found a great local electrician that does a good job for a great price. Many electricians charge up to $25 per arm! If that’s the case, this one would become a large, fancy candle holder. Keep your fingers crossed! I really want this one to work for us! I’ll post “after” pictures when it is finished. Thanks for stopping by! xoxo Dell
