There is something so satisfying about finding a great piece of furniture for a bargain! I searched high and low for a small round coffee table for our basement at the lake house. I didn’t want a new one (mostly because they were SO expensive!) so it took me a while to find just the right one.

Coffee Table Before

Coffee Table After
I found this gem at a consignment store in town. As purple didn’t match our rustic basement décor, I knew that I could either repaint it or stain it to suit our needs.
At $40 it was a great buy! I decided to strip off the purple paint and see what the condition of the wood was underneath. If it had a nice wood grain, then I would stain it. If not, a more neutral color paint would be fine too.
It took considerable elbow grease to strip off the old paint. It turns out it had been painted a few times. Once the paint was finally off, I sanded it and wiped it down. I used a dark stain that I had on hand. It was the same color I used on our outdoor chaise lounges, so I knew I liked the color. The stain turned out beautifully. Once the stain dried, I rubbed on some furniture wax. I
love the rich color of the table now and it is the perfect shape and size for our little basement. I added this copper tray on top to protect it from the inevitable feet, food and drinks. I love that most of the furniture in our lake house has a story. Some pieces were brought down from our Pennsylvania house. Some pieces were generously given to us by friends and family. We painted many of the pieces to bring them back to life or spruce them up a bit. Black and white are my go to colors, as you may guess!
Speaking of which, I am off to paint! Hope you have a wonderful day!
