Happy Thursday, sweet friends! I hope you have a fun filled and relaxing day planned, but in case you have some cleaning chores to tackle, I highly recommend this best outdoor cleaner! Come see how we used it recently!
Full disclosure, today is my birthday so I will not be cleaning ANYTHING today. I am however, enjoying a leisurely day, still drinking coffee and flipping through my magazines and browsing Facebook Marketplace. ( Just in case I find a little birthday gift for myself. Nothing yet, but the day is young.) My husband and I did do some much needed cleaning recently on our Veranda.
The screened in porch beside our terrance is what we call The Veranda. Well, I do. My husband always gets the outdoor areas mixed up. Anyway, the Veranda gets quite a bit of wind and weather, understandably. I gave it a good cleaning in the Spring after the pollen stopped falling. But since then, I had a plaque I wanted hung and needed my husband and his big ladder to assist. “B” plaque hung. Check. This piece hung above the door at our last house on the Veranda, so it’s fitting it regains its position on the new one! (It’s from Ballard Designs.)
As usual, one thing leads to another. Once we got the sign hung, my husband, Brad, noticed the ceiling fan and light were also dirty. So, he cleaned that with windex and paper towels. Check.
Then we noticed the facia boards were dirty and not sure if it was dirt, mold, or both. And they looked terrible! It must have happened suddenly, because I don’t remember seeing it before. Gross, right?
We had a jug of this cleaner in our garage, and we’ve used it before, so it was our first option. It’s called 30 Seconds Outdoor cleaner. It claims to remove algae, mold and mildew, so it looked like the right stuff for the job. It’s concentrated and you mix it half and half with water. (Or whatever strength you want.) We mixed it as directed and poured it in a clean, empty, spray bottle. Since my husband was already on the ladder, he took care of the cleaning and I handed up paper towels and threw away the dirty ones. Teamwork! He simply sprayed the cleaner directly on the board and wiped it off. The stains came off easily!
It worked like a charm! The cleaner has bleach in it, so be careful where you spray, and cover or move any furniture, just in case. We accidentally got a few drips on the flagstone pavers, but I poured water on it right away and it didn’t leave any spots. The facia looks as good as new!
Here’s a quick before and after. Quite the difference, right? So, it turned out to be a productive hour or so. It didn’t take long at all and it was so worth the effort! Now the Veranda is pretty and clean and I’m actually sitting out here now as we speak! There is a nice breeze blowing and the fan helps keep it cool out here.
So, while I agree that cleaning is never much fun, at least this is quick and easy! We plan to host several parties and holiday functions throughout the end of the year, so at least this space is ready for company! Now for the rest of the house!! Yikes!
Well, I’m off to make a tall glass of iced tea and plop back down on the Veranda. A fun dinner with sweet friends later tonight and I’ll call this birthday a happy day! Thanks for stopping by today and let’s chat again soon! Have a great day! xoxo Dell
