Happy Monday, sweet friends! Over the weekend I helped a group of lovely ladies host a baby shower for a very special couple! Come see a few fun baby shower decorating ideas we used!
On Saturday, four dear friends and I hosted a baby shower for one of our nephews. We decided it would be fun to have a couple’s shower so the Father-to-Be could join in the fun! We waited until after the holidays and planned the event for this past weekend. And good thing because their due date is only one month away!
We planned the menu and decor and gathered at the house where the shower was to be held the day before so we could decorate and plan where everything would go. That was a good move because it helped us save time on the day of the shower and all we had to do was stage the food. Here are a few decorating ideas when hosting a shower!
-A Balloon Garland! These are inexpensive and make such a splash! We ordered a kit from Amazon that included the balloons in various colors and sizes, and also included the tape with holes to assemble the garland. (This shower was for a baby girl, but naturally you can use any colors.) We blew up about 150 balloons and then arranged them on the tape alternating the sizes and colors. The colors ranged from white, to taupes, to soft pinks. We swagged the balloon garland over where the chairs of the guests of honor would sit. Pretty! (We used push pins to secure the balloon tape to the wall.)
-Decorate the chandelier or light fixture! The hostess has a beautiful chandelier in the dining room where we planned to serve dessert. So, we added some pretty clear beads that one friend had on hand. We draped the bead garland around the chandelier twice alternating the length for interest and left some hanging down in between. Then we tied on some pom-pom balls that we assembled as well as a few lanterns. Simple and festive!
-Use props to display the gifts! Several times we’ve used a vintage bassinet to hold gifts. In our family we have this bassinet that has cradled every one of our babies, grand babies and great grand babies , so it’s pretty sentimental! It looks sweet holding gifts. You could also use a pack and play or a high chair too!
-A sweet prop we used this time was a vintage rocking chair that belonged to the Daddy (guest of honor) when he was little. Helium balloons brought attention to the darling little chair. We put some stuffed animals from when the couple were little. (their original Lovies) So adorable!
-Flowers! I have several vintage baby vases from when my boys were little and added a few more along the way. They are small and look cute tucked here and there and add some color and sweetness to a shower. I took all of the vases to our local florist and they took care of the rest! You can find similar vases like these at thrift stores, antique stores or on eBay.
-Centerpieces! Again, I like to use flowers as a centerpiece for the main table. I have a large ceramic swan that reminds me of Mother Goose, so we had it filled with flowers and set on a pedestal for the centerpiece of the dessert table.
-Display framed pictures of the parents-to-be when they were babies, or of when they first discovered they were pregnant. Many couples take a picture of themselves with the baby’s first ultrasound as a baby announcement. Our couple had one such sweet picture and so we blew it up to an 8X10″ print and had it framed. It sat on the sideboard behind the dining table as part of the decor. So sweet! (No photo, but it was beautiful!)
For my daughter-in-law’s shower I had their baby announcement blown up and framed.
-Fun personalized napkins! I ordered these from Zazzle a few weeks ago. The print is called Wildflower Watercolor Baby Shower napkins and I had them personalized with the couple’s name, and the date of the shower. These would work nicely for a boy or girl’s shower. Or a gender neutral shower for those who choose not to know. Tip: Zazzle runs specials often so be sure to take advantage of their online coupons to save money. You can also find gender specific napkins online or your local store as well.
-Use the food as decor! When you have cupcakes as pretty as these, they definitely serve as decor! My sweet friend ordered these beautiful cupcakes from a local baker and they are just as pretty as they are delicious! They were staged on pretty clear glass dishes with lace doilies.
I have to share a cute moment from the shower. The brother of the Father-to-be was in charge of writing down the gifts received and from whom, etc. He is not a daddy himself yet either, so it was cute watching the two brothers trying to figure out what each gift was called. When they opened the pack and play porta crib, they dubbed it a “baby jail.” And the burp cloths were spit up rags. I can’t wait to see the thank you notes! I love it.
This was such a fun baby shower and I was thrilled to be a part of it. It’s so exciting to see this wonderful young couple become parents for the first time! And not only for the first time parents, but first time grandparents, too, for our dear sweet friends! We have ring-side seats and we can not wait. For all of it!
Thank you for stopping by and I hope y’all have a wonderful week! Let’s chat again soon! xoxox Dell
