This hall tree is one of our family favorites. It is probably over 100 years old. My husband’s parents gave it to us about 25 years ago and we treasure it!
Oh, the stories that this Hall Tree could tell! This lovely piece has been in my husband’s family for ages. It has traveled from North Carolina to Pennsylvania, to Colorado and back to Pennsylvania just since we’ve owned it! It stands over seven feet tall and is about 4 feet wide. Underneath the cushion is a hinged lid with a large storage area underneath. My father in law was one of five boys and they would play hide and seek in the storage space in this very piece! I love that.
There is a metal hook on the end that I believe must have been for umbrellas or canes. There must have originally been 4 double hooks but there are only two on the piece now. I don’t think the cushion itself was original so I didn’t feel guilty recovering it in a fun zebra print a few years ago. Plus, this fabric is upholstery weight and very substantial and sturdy. The carvings on this piece are beautiful as is the wood grain.
I think this piece will make one last trip to North Carolina before too long. Happy Hill is calling its name. 🙂
