A few months ago I trash picked this sweet little stool. I knew I could rescue it from the trash collector and make it into something cute and functional. Then of course it sat in my craft room for ages. Then I stumbled upon a funky little stool from Anthropologie and my inspiration was born!
The foot stool by Anthropologie is called the Luxe Fur Stool. It retails for $348. A little steep for my budget, but very cool none the less. It is similar in size to my little stool so I think it will be a fun knock-off project. Below is a picture from my computer of the stool in dark gray. It’s easier to see the color, but I am using the white fur for my stool.
This is how my little stool looked as I found it:
To get started I disassembled the stool by removing the legs and the fabric. The fabric turned out to be some kind of plastic maybe from a table cloth or shower curtain. A water proof stool? I’m sure it was easy to clean. At any rate, I tossed the fabric and the horse hair stuffing. All that remained were the legs and wood base.
The wood legs were scratched and scuffed so I rubbed them down with some Howard’s Restor-A-Shine Polishing Compound. This really did the trick!
You can see the difference the polishing compound made on the legs:
For the cushion I cut a 5 inch thick piece of foam to fit the size of the wooden base. Now it’s ready for the fabric! I ordered one yard of Faux Fake Fur Monkey White on Amazon. It was $20.45 for one yard of the fabric plus shipping. (60 inches wide). I cut the fur fabric to fit my foam piece along with a piece of white quilt batting. Pulling the batting and fur taut I wrapped it around the bottom of the wood base and stapled the fur all around the circle. I trimmed off the excess and stapled the edges down to ensure a snug fit. You can tell it was a fluffy and messy process!
I reattached the four legs and my Anthropologie Luxe Fur Stool was born! For less than $30 I was able to recreate a high end look for a fraction of the cost. A savings of over $300! Granted not everyone needs a furry stool, but if you are craving one of your own, it’s very simple and affordable. Just grab any old stool and some faux fur and have at it! I have about half a yard left of the fur fabric so I think a sweet little matching pillow is in order! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Naturally it got Lacey’s seal of approval! 🙂
$348 on the Left and $30 on the right!
