Happy last day of November! How can this be?? This year has flown by, so before we start December, I thought I’d share a little advent calendar I whipped together last year. And it didn’t cost me a penny!
Around this time last year I decided to make a fun little advent calendar using only items I had on hand. Lucky for me, I never throw anything away, including scrap lumber. So, I raided the stash of scrap trim from the garage and a few wooden clothes pins. This is where I started…
I cut each piece using a hand saw and sanded the edges. I glued each branch to the trunk of the tree and then tacked it on the back to secure it.
For the clips I used standard wooden clothespins.
To make the star, I pulled apart eight clothespins and removed the wire clip. Then I glued the pieces back to back, opposite of how they came originally, like so.
I then glued four clothespin pieces together to begin the star.
Then I glued the remaining pieces together and topped it off with a pearl button. Easy!
Then I painted it white.
Here is the whole advent tree put together.
To make the numbers I printed them on the computer then used a decorative punch to cut them out. I then glued the numbers to small brown gift bags that I purchased at Michael’s.
And a close up of the numbers…
This is the finished advent calendar. I gave it to my fairy god-daughter last year. I hope she will use it for years to come!
Does your family use an advent calendar? If so, what kind? Did you make your own? Do tell! I hope you have a great day! Thanks for stopping by! xoxo Dell

What did you put in the gift bags?
Hi, Judy, Thanks for your question regarding the advent calendar bags. I actually gave the calendar to my next door neighbor and her family. The envelopes were fairly small so I’m guessing they put small candies, coins or toys in them. You could also put notes like “coupon good for one trip to the movies with Mom”. etc. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for following along! xo Dell
