Let’s face it. Most people don’t enjoy doing laundry. Personally I don’t enjoy it much either so when we built this house 13 years ago I tried to make the laundry room bright and fun so I would like being in there. This vintage cabinet fits the bill!
When we bought our house there was builder grade wire shelving everywhere! In every closet, the pantry and the laundry room. I am not a fan of wire shelving as it leaves marks on clothes, towels, and things fall through the cracks. So shortly after we moved in I found this adorable cabinet at an antique store. I knew it would be perfect for my laundry room. So, out came the wire shelf and up went the vintage cabinet!
I am not sure about the age of the cabinet but the glass looks original and old. The cabinet was missing the knobs so I added some vintage glass handles. I imagine something similar was on this piece originally. The back of the cabinet is bead board and has a scalloped bottom and three shelves. The cabinet and shelves were already painted a creamy white so I left the beautiful original patina. I love being able to see through the glass and quickly grab the detergent or dryer sheets and still keeps everything neat and orderly. And it is MUCH more charming than wire shelves!
I like to put my detergent in see through glass containers. Not only does it look better, I can see when supplies are running low. (I purchased my glass containers at Target but they are also available on Amazon). I added Ball Mason Jars to store other supplies such as Brillo pads and sponges. Again, I can see what is in each container. Plus, I love glass jars. 🙂 I also added some favorite old bird figurines, a scale, a clock and some silk roses in a white pitcher for more vintage fun.
So, even though laundry is still a chore, this sweet cabinet makes it a bit more enjoyable. I have a sneaky suspicion this little gem would look even better at the lake house in the Banana Room! Sorry future buyers. It’s coming with ME!
