Happy Monday, Friends! Yesterday I played golf for the first time. Ever. Is it too late to pick up the game at my age? I hope not, but we’ll see!
My husband is a life-long golfer. He’s always encouraged me to play but I always had an excuse. And quite honestly, if I am ever faced with a 4 hour block of time, I’d prefer to read or go shopping. But, now that we are retired, I feel like I should at least give it a try. Right?
So, yesterday my husband and I decided to begin by hitting some balls. It seemed like a great idea, but when we got to the golf club, there were no balls. The course was too wet for the ball picker to retrieve the balls on the practice pad (or whatever it’s called) so we decided to play instead. Plus, because the course was so wet from the recent snow and rain, it was “cart path only”. Which, I learned means more walking since you can’t drive the golf cart off of the path. I didn’t mind. I could use the exercise and I love being outdoors!
We played nine holes. Actually, it was four holes. (It seemed like nine.) However, I walked the equivalent to nine holes chasing my ball, which zig-zagged all over each hole. Or green. Or sand trap. Whatever you call it. I covered a lot of ground yesterday. Golf is much harder than it looks! Heck, hitting the ball is much harder than it looks. My husband was very patient, which was much appreciated. We decided to quit for the day when his buddy arrived for their previously planned game. Frankly, I was glad to take a break.
So, my future plan is to take a much needed golf lesson and actually learn to hit the ball off of the tee. Or at all. Air whiffing the ball is not fun and embarrassing. Thankfully there was no one behind us to witness my first feeble attempt at golf. One of my sweet friends loaned me an extra set of her golf clubs. Which, I forgot to take yesterday, so I played with my husband’s clubs. Maybe that was the problem? Doubtful. However, next time I will try using women’s clubs. (Thank you for the loan, Helen!)
All in all, it was a fun first attempt. It was a gorgeous day and I got to spend some QT with my husband in the great outdoors! The golf carts are new and have a neat computer GPS system, and a lot of cool gadgets. Drink holders and cute little tee holders were a bonus. He even asked me to play again! (He must be desperate.)
So, before my golf lesson, first things first. I need some official golf attire. The sign at the club does say, “appropriate attire required.” I must oblige! Maybe if I look the part, I can play the part? Today I ordered a pair of these crop pants. They look super comfortable and I can wear them year round. Plus, if I have cute golf shoes, you’ll be able to appreciate them better if I’m wearing these:
I also ordered a pair of leggings with a built in skirt. This combo can be worn for golf or tennis, so maybe if I stink at golf, I’ll try tennis. Either way, I can wear this. (And a shirt and shoes, of course.)
I bought a few sleeveless ladies golf shirts and some light weight jackets. My sweet husband bought me a new hat yesterday, which helped my overall mood immensely. Now, all I need is a golf glove, some cute (and comfortable) golf shoes, and a skill set. Wish me luck!!
Thanks for stopping in! Only 7 days, 6 hours and 11 minutes until Christmas! Yikes! Need to get all of this stuff done! Are you ready? xoxo Dell
